Makoto thinks he and Kyoko are in a situationship or maybe even dating because she's very blunt and will say what she likes about him (his actions and personality).

He uses words like "date" when they go out and comments on their surroundings being "romantic". She just thinks he's being weird with the way he words things and responds like, "Yeah, this is a nice outing" and "I guess I would call this place romantic, yes".

Eventually, she realizes he might be misreading what they are and HAS to ask. "What do you think is happening here? Between us."

He gets really pale, then flushes red because he realizes he fucked up. That's all the answer she needs, and she walks away. She feels kinda bad for him, but mostly she's just like, "What a fucking idiot, wow."

And they never talk about it again. (Makoto would be mortified. Kyoko doesn't wanna think about Makoto having feelings for her.)
