"The truth is, we haven't really changed all that much at all. We've got rid of them speaking in old dialects and old languages, but the truth is we haven't learned anything from the past. We're still brutishly invading other countries, we're still having gender bias, and we're still thuggishly burning down the villages of people we don't like. We haven't changed. So in terms of trying to make it accessible to a modern audience, I think there are enough parallel themes that are there. I think the truth is what we're trying to do is hopefully make people go, "Hahaha, we should really try to change that."
— DAVID OAKES (on how period pieces make characters from over a thousand years ago feel relevant to modern audiences)

“The performances that will remain longest in my memory is by David Oakes [...] Oakes embodies Levin’s social awkwardness and earnest devotion … But goodness can easily be boring, and he avoids this with a loving goofiness and wry self‑mockery that is highly endearing.” — PLAYS TO SEE'S REVIEW OF ANNA KARENINA (2025)

Do you know the word, Mr. Blanky? It's similar to a Yupik word I know from Russian America. 'Tuunraq'. A Spirit. Spirit? That may not be her meaning. A spirit that dresses as an animal. THE TERROR - SEASON 1 (2018)
"why did you stop writing your story!!! never stop writing!!!!!!!!!!!" well you see the character had to drive one mile to a new location and the sentence "she got into the car" was quite simply my undoing
