Discover the Tap Strap, the device that turns anything into a keyboard - Full video
This is actually really excellent for individuals with certain kinds of limited mobility! Keyboards can sometimes be inaccessible, and this could be a great tool for people who need an accommodation to type.
There’s probably a learning curve, but it sounds interesting.
Plus this also feels like jump-point technology more than anything which could lead into simplified gloves that can read sign language so that people who can’t speak can simply sign and have their mobile device speak for them. This could help people with autism who can type but find verbal communication difficult (or just anyone with verbal communication issues) it could work well since it could have military application too when needing to communicate clearly and silently but also to document in field what types of communications or commands are taking place. A lot of applications if utilized correctly.
Oh crap this is so freaking cool? It reminds me of those music gloves Imogen Heap was showing off a while ago (which I also Want) but a lot more practical. But yeah, tons of things to be done here and… there’s gonna be lots of Neat Stuff coming. Question of getting it readily available/accessible but oh wow. Yesss.
I love the concept…but why does it require a whole different setup? Seems to me that if it relies on movement one could use a standard keyboard layout (for touch-typists, anyway). I mean, absolutely, the taps it uses would be great for folks with limited mobility, but it’d be much more adoptable if it could handle regular typing as well (or instead, different models perhaps). Wouldn’t just have to be English QWERTY either.
I assume it has to do with what it can and can not detect. The lift and place of a finger, yes, but the forward and back motion of moving between the rows on a keyboard, no. If you watch your hands as you type, the upper knuckle taht it rests on does not really move differently while you are reaching between rows. It’s probably not detectable with any reliability.
this is why I love this joke:
Jesus was fond of telling his followers not to worry about how they’d afford food tomorrow because God would provide. But Jesus told them this while handing out free bread and encouraging them to help people who were in need, making them the outlet through which God would provide for others
My mother was a waitress, we live in an area that has a lot of Christians and people would often stiff her on tips. Instead they’d leave a pamphlet with quotes from Jesus saying not to worry because God would provide
Jesus’ message was never that God would magically put food on people’s tables. God would provide opportunities to help each other, like the boat captains offering to help the dying man. That only works if people actually help each other
When I first heard this joke as a teenager I laughed at the guy who didn’t take the help that was offered to him. As an adult, I think of all the Christian politicians who vote against food stamps and I want to tell them “You were the boat captain but you steered away from the man in need instead of offering him help. Is that really what God wanted you to do?”
Opportunity. Recognize it.

First day on the job.
Where in the world do I begin? Hello, my name is Jonathan Dart and, as of today, I am officially the IT guy at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry.
You read that correctly. It took them until 2016, but both students and staff alike have finally caved and demanded that their cell phones work on school grounds, and with that request they had to find a “muggle” (a term I’m quickly learning to detest) to install wifi and maintain any technology that functions on school grounds.
So let’s make this clear to any wizards, witches, or IT muggles allowed into their circle out there. I just entered this “wizarding world” 3 days ago. This is all entirely new to me. I’m writing this because I’ve learned through the grapevine that other magical schools are planning on making the same jump, and I’m hoping my experiences can help other outsiders down the road.
As its my first day I really don’t have much advice to give. All I can do is stand here and wonder to myself what the hell I was thinking. For the record, I’m typing this on my iPhone while I ride a magic staircase. They better have beer in this world because I’m going to need a drink tonight.
