Opposable thumbs are handy
Actually, my therapist has told me this is a healthy way of processing things. Because you can get the trauma out of your head And you can write the ending you wish it had. The trusted person rescue, the catharsis of getting to kill the one who hurt you.
It's good for your brain. It's healthier than bottling it up. Fiction is where we go for emotional release. That can be true with trauma too.
so what you're saying is
character: NO
therapist: YES
Adding @dear-massacre's tags because they are so true:
#this is why it's important to remember that fictional characters are fake #they have no agency. they're made up #it hurts no one to make any character go through the horrors #it is healthy and cathartic
yeah okay ill reblog that
incredible subset of autistic/adhd person out there who thinks that “neurotypicals” don’t have inner worlds/thoughts /interests
comments under a post about autistic hyper empathy. like you can’t really believe that 80% of people don’t wonder or care or think about anything can you
A thing that is maybe ultimately harmless but also kind of… not exactly a pet peeve but it just makes me feel iffy, is assuming if someone has somewhat unusual interest(s) that in and of itself is equivalent to an autism/ADHD diagnosis, so therefore someone who doesn't fall under that can't possibly be interested in anything outside of the normal.
like yes that is one of many possible symptoms, I myself am diagnosed with ADHD, but I dunno, I don't think I'd be a completely different person with zero likes/interests if I didn't have it. Neurotypical people have weird fascinations too. Just talk to a "normie" long enough. People don't need to be born a certain way and have an innate neurodevelopmental condition to be curious about the world around them. One of the most rewarding parts of education and science communication is finding ways to reawaken curiosity in a wide range of different people, something everyone had as kids but some of us have been conditioned to ignore.
this might piss some people off but I don’t think some of you actually ever tried to unlearn your hatefulness. you just came out as queer and decided your new targets really truly deserve it this time.
when you remember what happened to the word "woke" you'll never stop being mad. woke originally meant to "stay alert" during antiblack racial injustices that black individuals face and now it got turned into meme shit and it's genuinely infuriating when antiblack systemic oppression is still ongoing across the world.
If you ever wondered why they call tattoos and piercings "unprofessional" and "unsophisticated"
Source: Lainey Molnar
literally. Cesare Lombroso "father of criminology" and disgusting racist and eugenicist had a whole thing about hating tattoos, and he even explicitly said that tattoos were something that """savages""" did and that criminals got tattoos because their brains were similar to """savages"""
dont obey the racist bullshit
There has been a recall of SERTRALINE 100mg tablets batch number V2500425.
The regulator said 81,872 packs are included in the recall. Please check if you are on Sertraline. Thank you.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has recalled a batch of a commonly prescribed antidepressant as a precautiona
Not trying to sound like a boomer but going to an art museum for the first time in a minute is wild because like... (visual) art really does hit different when its not on a tiny screen the size of your palm
There's research that says art in person can affect us by triggering introspection because the phyiscal light and shadows hitting the texture of a painting changes the image and the experience in a way that printed or screen viewed art can not replicate. It's said that the minor shifts in those details is experienced by the brain in a way that mimics primal reactions to motion in wilderness that might alert us to movement in the woods, for example, that would directly affect our ability to survive.
So like yea, paintings in person, they do stuff. They make us feel aware of ourselves in a way that a flat screen just can't, and they remind us that we are human beings.
that's so cool! I wasn't thinking of realism specifically in the first post, but this reminds me how I've definitely felt that realistic oil paintings, landscapes especially, capture light and atmosphere in a way that even the most skilled photographers haven't gotten to yet. Ultimately because our sight as we experience it isn't just two lenses, but the way our brain puts together details, memories, expectations, patterns, etc to make a scene, which no lense will ever be able to capture. Like, I can see a nice photo print and think "oh, nice mountains" but I don't get the feeling of actually being there. Seeing old masters depict places I've been to and have been relatively unchanged is so special.
(Painting above by Thomas Moran, a Yellowstone scene)
"sex is real" is a very funny thing to say to a group of people who very famously change their sex on purpose
in abandoning discussion of the nuances of sex in trans discourse, we've ironically let bioessentialist, binaristic thinking fester and rot out our communities
we've stopped actually challenging the binary, we just slapped "amab" and "afab" over "male" and "female," and we treat transition itself like a mere act of dressup. we let blatant transphobia run rampant all the time as long as people call each other "amab" and "afab" instead of misgendering them directly
"afab bodies," "amab energy," "afab only housing," "amab behavior" THIS IS TRANSPHOBIA. YOU ARE MAKING ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT PEOPLE'S BEHAVIORS AND BODIES BASED ON THEIR ASSIGNED SEX. THE WORD FOR THAT IS TRANSPHOBIA
sex does not determine your behaviors. sex is not a binary. sex can be changed, and IS changed by medical transition, INCLUDING hrt
is it even a "trans" community if we don't hold these things to be true? how can a community of trans people who bind each other to their agabs like the rest of the world does be called a trans community? come the fuck on
The thing about reclaiming slurs is that
You need to actually be able to reclaim said slur
You can't fucking use it derogatorily it's not a free pass you're not reclaiming that slur you just called a stranger a faggot with no nuance
so so tired of people seeing "reclaimed slurs" and mentally assigning that as "slurs I can say with no consequences"
Seeing how this blew up I do want to reiteriate this extends to TME people trying to reclaim Femboy in any way. You can't reclaim that. You shouldn't call yourself that. You can just say you're a feminine boy it's a few extra syllables you'll be okay without your favorite slur.
"oh it's mens mental health month not pride month" what if... it's both
There's a book that we had in our house growing up that I was obsessed with as a kid. It was just called "PAKISTAN: PAINTINGS BY LIN YONG AND SU HUA" and it was an art book of 100+ paintings/sketches by two Chinese artists who travelled thru Pakistan in 1978 and 1981, a sort of travelogue of their trip, and to little-kid me, it was some of the most beautiful things I'd ever seen. I have no idea why we had that book, but I would stare at it for hours, and it made me wish I could draw/paint/do whatever it was that these artists had managed to do.
Anyway, we've moved house a bunch of times and I lost track of the book and haven't seen it for probably two decades now. But I think about it now and again, and had struggled to find it over the years, but I finally, finally got my hands on a copy of my own and i want to cry haha
I was afraid that maybe the art isn't as good as I remembered, being just a kid and all, but I cracked it open and nope, it hits me just the way it used to. Maybe even more now. It's so fucking pretty. Have some random pages:
Sure! Have some more portraits from the book
I love love love love love love you!
Dudes healthcare is so fake. My ADHD meds are $940 without insurance. But they gave me a website of "coupons" which straight up looks like a scam website, and I got it today for $60! Just a coupon from a random website and it was $900 cheaper. America, I am confusion!! America explain!!
For all my uninsured judys out there it's for Walgreens only: walgreens.rxsense.com
as a pharmacy technician i can share with you some websites that give you those "coupons" for your meds!
goodrx is the most well known one, but if i'm trying to find the cheapest price for a patient i compare it to scriptcycle, and use whichever is offering the best price. you just type in the medication (PLEASE make sure you're getting the right drug, dosage, and quantity) and your zip code and they will spit out some offers for you
some pharmacies may have their own discount card to compare to as well!
if you are getting a name brand medication, you can also look at the manufacturer's website to see if they offer any evouchers for you to use too
good luck out there 👍
How to Pay Hospital Bills When You’re Flat Broke
another one is singlecare.com, brought my duloxetine from $240 a month to $20
and there are coupons for hrt on there as well :) different options for different pharmacies
dollarfor.org saved my broke ass, it can save urs too
it's march 5th, which is dissociative identity awareness day!! i seldom talk about being plural on here, but i am, and i've had this comic idea for quite a while now... i have P-DID, which is a label under the OSDD umbrella that not many people know about! i think these little infographics can be helpful to anyone who might be questioning or newly-realizing/diagnosed as plural, i know talking to other systems was one of the things that helped me out the most when i was learning all this stuff about myself. hopefully it might help you, too- or maybe you'll just get to learn something new!
the colors here are from this flag, just with a few adjustments to make it work better for something like a comic. i'll also link my sources under the cut, for anyone interested in reading more!
reblogs are appreciated!
i wish younger me saw this and knew that they weren't going crazy
Not shaving and not wearing make up are literally nonbehaviors. They’re a complete lack of action. But doing nothing is considered masculine because women are not allowed to just be. this goes double for trans women.
reblog this version because transmisogynists don’t know how to fuck off.
