These are the most commonly asked questions I get in no particular order! If your question doesn't come up here, try searching the key words of your question in my blog's search bar!
PS...I would like to make it widely known that I do not use any sort of ai for my art + story and I do not support fans using ai to make character chat bots of my characters. All the ones out there of Kree are made without my consent and have a lot of misleading info about him. If you like what I do I would ask that you do not use/make character chat bots of my characters. However, making your own fanfic or fanart (without ai) is perfectly acceptable and encouraged!
Q: Are you making a Webcomic?
A: Yes! I don’t want to announce the release date until I know for sure I am ready, but I have been planning one for a while now! It will come out ‘eventually.’
Q: Why can’t Clara just move closer south to be with Kree?
A: My story is about long distance relationships. There are many reasons why Clara can’t move further south... but what I want you to know more is that Clara and Kree will ALWAYS be apart from each other now and then. It’s the story I want to tell. If you really want to know why though, watch my Lore Corner vids on tiktok/instagram/youtube.
Q: How tall are Kree and Clara? How tall are harpies usually?
A: Kree is 5ft8, Clara is 5ft3, and Laurel as an adult is over 6ft. Harpy females are usually about 7ft tall while males tend to be 6ft something. Kree is smaller because he was born a runt.
Q: How old are Kree and Clara? How long do harpies live? Will Kree outlive her?
A: Clara is 23 and Kree is 38 when they meet for the first time. Harpies at most can live up to 200 years (keep in mind this is like a human living to 100, not common but possible). So, yes, Kree will outlive Clara...but I haven’t figured out how long...
Q: Will Kree find a new mate after Clara dies?
A: Harpies mate for life. If they have spent a significant amount of time with their mate before their death, most harpies would not be interested in finding another. Kree is no different.
Q: Has Kree had a mate before Clara?
A: Not a mate but he has had a previous lover. You will meet him in the comic at some point!
Q: Does Kree ever hurt Clara with his talons? Has he ever trimmed/dulled them?
A: Kree accidentally hurts Clara often and feels bad every time, but no he doesn’t trim his talons. Not only are they important for self-defense and hunting for food, they’re important for how he uses his hands! To cut them off would be similar to taking off two knuckles from your fingers.
Q: Does Kree have...a cloaca?
A: All my social media accounts are sfw so I don’t answer these kinds of questions! If you really want to know and you’re 18+ years old you can sign onto my patreon to find out!
Q: Do female harpies lay eggs?
A: They do! About 1-5 eggs every year. If a harpy female has too many or know a mlm harpy couple who want children, often eggs will get adopted by new parents!
Q: Did Clara lay an egg to have Laurel? Did it hurt?
A: Sorry to disappoint but no Clara did not lay an egg. It was a live birth that was about as painful as anyone’s natural birth! Laurel did not develop talons yet and her wings were small so it would’ve been similar to birthing a child with an extra pair of arms!
Q: Was Kree around for the birth?
A: Yes! Clara found out she was pregnant right after Kree headed south for the winter. When he came back, Clara was about 5 months pregnant already! He was there for the birth and was very nervous the entire time.
Q: Does Laurel need to go south with Kree?
A: Laurel does need magia to survive like all magical creatures do, but because she is half human, she is able to survive without it for much longer than a harpy would. She is able to get through the winter while only showing mild symptoms in mid to late winter, but she quickly bounces back once magia returns to the north and she can eat magical food again.
Q: Why is Laurel not able to fly as an adult? Will she ever regain the ability?
A: It's a mix of being half-human and not consuming enough magia throughout her life. Even at her most nurished, she'd still not be anything clsoe to a full harpy, but by being malnourished, she is even less able to properly develop her harpy traits ie. wing span, talons, height.
would you say the world of Kree is pre, post, or during Industrial Revolution/in universe equivalent?
The time period was inspired by the mid-late 1700s (when the industrial revolution was revving up in Great Britain), but in Kree's world most of the "revolution" is happening in southern human cities where they have access to the new magical resources being gutted from the forests near the equator.
Clara lives in a countryside village in the northern kingdom, which means technology is slow to arrive there and the use/purchase of magical goods are nearly completely outlawed throughout the country. So...the tech shown in their story will be pretty behind the times. (Clara and her Aunt still spin wool with a spindle rather than a spinning wheel for instance.)
Assuming ice cream exists, what would be your characters favorite flavors?
Ice cream does exist, but would've been more of a, somewhat pricey, city treat. That being said, if my characters got to try it, these would be their favorites:
Clara - Lemon or any citrisy flavor
Kree - Berry flavor (but the fact that it's made with another creature's milk would gross him out a lot)
Laurel - Pistachio flavor (She actually does get to try ice cream as an adult, so this one is particularly canon!)
Are they around like emu- ostrich sized or are they even bigger?
They're Large.
Definitely bigger than an ostrich or emu egg. Think of how big an egg would have to be to roughly fit a third trimester baby in it. The shells are very, very thick in order to not break while being lain and almost always require the assistance of an adult to help the baby escape without injury. Harpy moms and their babies are troopers!
hey, i have a mildly stupid question about KREE, but what exactly are the character’s ages throughout the story?
what i mean by this is, how old were clara and kree when they met? how old was clara when she accepted the mate feather? how old were they when they had laurel? etc
Clara is 23 and Kree is around 38 when they meet for the first time. (Keep in mind harpies live twice as long as humans and cultural differences with age association)
About a year passes before Clara accepts Kree's mating feather, and around a decade after that they have Laurel.
Other than the age they meet I like to keep every other age vague in case I change my mind about when things precisely happen. :)
This is gonna sound bizarre but it’s out of genuine curiosity.
Do harpies in general have a butt?
They’re bipedal but do they have fat deposits in the gluteus Maximus to even be considered a butt by human standards?
They do have gluteal muscles! Despite not standing completely upright or walking very often, Harpies do still use their glutes for squatting on branches and for controlling their body when flying.
I don't know enough about anatomy to say what their fat deposits would be like compared to humans but I'd be more likely to draw harpies with slender/ more muscular butts than fat ones.
If you don't mind me asking for fair use of audio in your storyboards/animatics did you need to gain a sync licensing? What are your limitations to use audio for your work for practice and for your portfolio?animation is some I wish to work on but I overthink on copyright issues making me nervous about working on it
I've never really had to worry about copyright or obtaining licenses to upload short form media (tiktoks, reels, shorts).
The worst that's ever happened was tiktok muting a decent chunk of my videos after a contract they had with some music artists ended and now they are much stricter about muting audio from songs/shows/movies. As of now my tiktok account is quite "swiss cheesed". But! Other that, in the last 5 years, I've personally had no problems uploading a few seconds of copyrighted audio to tiktok/youtube/instagram so if that's what you wanna do don't fret too much.
However, long form media (like a regular youtube video/ honestly anything longer than a minute) is different and you should probably go through the proper routes to use copyrighted audios legally (probably costs money), ask small creators/voice actors for permission to use their original audios (the worst they could say is no), or make do with royalty free music if you wanna upload something/ add it to your professional portfolio.
But I'll tell you a secret...as far as practice goes, no one can sue you for art you've never shared publicly. As long as it stays on your computer you can use copyrighted materials for whatever you like!
Hi!! Sorry I don't know if this has been answered before, but does Laurel need to head south every winter like Kree does to consume Magia, or does she not need to because she's part human? Does she need less? More?
Since Laurel is half human and has mostly human organs she does not need nearly as much magia as a full blooded harpy like Kree. This allows her to stay in the north with her mom through the winter and can go a few months eating only non-magical food before she starts feeling the real side effects of magia starvation.
Laurel believes that the main reason her harpy traits (like wing size) didn't develop properly into adulthood is because of these gaps of magia withdrawal.
Very weird question but. Has Kree ever asked Clara to regurgitate food into his mouth?
Eating/feeding in this way is a very parent-young child specific activity similar to breastfeeding and isn't something typically done between friends/lovers.
I suppose it could be a sort of kink for some harpies to do that with their partners as a form of intimacy, but it would be considered much more "taboo" than how adult humans sexualize breasts. Because of this, even learning to kiss from Clara felt risque for Kree.
How'd you get inspired with creating The World of Kree? :)
Since I've always cared much more about the romance and characters in my stories rather than worldbuilding, I actually relied a lot on people asking me questions on social media to develop Kree's world.
When I first started posting about Kree and Clara on tiktok in ye old 2021, I wasn't setting out to make what I ended up making, I just liked the vague concept of a historical romance involving a crypid/mythical being and a human with the added fun of bird mating rituals. But then strangers started to comment asking me about harpies, how magic worked, why Kree couldn't stay north all year, why Clara couldn't move south to be with him, etc.
Complete honestly a lot of my answers were improvised on the spot with what I thought made the most sense for the story/ world building I'd already thought of. To this day I still improvise a lot when folks ask me questions on youtube and tumblr, but I've always loved fantasy worlds, weird creatures, and magic, so I suppose my inspiration tends to stem from all the movies, novels, and art I've consumed until now, particularly the ones with a little romance in them.
There was never really a point where I sat down and "figured out" Kree's world. It was and is constantly shifting and expanding based on what I need and what fans ask about. And I kinda like it that way.
hello!!! I was feeling stressed w/work so I pulled tactic:distraction and I drew clara !!! (this is my interpretation of her color pallete bc I couldn't find an official one so I hope it suits her lol) anyway I LOVE ur characters!! the birb fam are so everything dude (also I wanna draw the dragon guys next to bc petra is kinda 😳)
She looks so cute omg!!! I really enjoy your style and brush choice since I personally love my art to look like it was drawn in pencil.
It's always interesting to see how others perceive Clara since I don't post her in color often as a stylistic choice. I think her being depicted in light gray makes many people assume she has light coloring when in fact her palette is more like this:
Whenever I post her in color I always gets comments of people saying "SHE'S NOT BLONDE??" haha. I've genuinely tried drawing her with blonde hair and it never felt right to me for some reason...
Anyhow, thank you for the beautiful fanart!!! It put a smile on my face today. :)
I just read the question about Laurel's situationship and I cannot find the video where she is shown, I follow you on instagram and here only so maybe it is in your other social media?
I recently posted the vid they were talking about to youtube, but it was originally posted on my tiktok yeeeeears ago.
On instagram I just posted the video's images back in 2022 but not the video itself. There's other pictures of Laurel and Agatha (formerly Penny) way back on my instagram too.
I just watched the latest video and I NEED to know more about Clara’s gf now
Since you're talking about my latest vid, I believe you're thinking of Laurel not Clara. Here's what I can say about her new beau:
Her name's Agatha. (Fun fact: It used to be Penny but then Bridgerton came out and I realized I made a similar chubby, redheaded, regency era character with the same name without having seen the show/books before and realized no one would ever believe me that it was a pure coincidence. So, name change it was. I still miss the name Penny though.)
She is not Laurel's girlfriend in the story yet and their "situationship" stage is quite long.
She comes from a wealthy/upper class family that lives in the south and is a bit sheltered.
Because of her family's nitpicking at her looks and achievements for years, Agatha believes herself to be undesirable in a calm, stubborn way.
She just barely managed to convinced her family to send her to art school by saying becoming more accomplished may help her find a husband. In truth, she just wants more time to create before she's trapped in a surely loveless marriage.
She sees women as the most beautiful creations in the world and wants to try to capture this beauty in portraits and depictions of mythical figures. (She doesn't yet realize how gay these feelings actually are)
I'm still not entirely sure yet if Agatha will be Laurel's final love, but loving a woman as a woman always leaves something permanent behind. At least it has for me.
Is Kree’s toxic trait that he wants to “defend his territory” aka beef with another harpy/couple
In a literal sense Kree would defend his territory (the places he makes a nest, hunts, and lives within) against any other harpies trying to permanently move in.
Harpies need a certain amount of space in order to not over-consume resources, but no harpy ever really "owns" property, at least not permanently. Instead they either move into unoccupied forestland, make an agreement with other harpies to share the land/ be neighbors, physically duel another harpy for the right to settle down (this is more common in the south where safe places/ areas with abundant resources are in high demand), or constantly travel around without a permanent home, lingering in other harpies territories only when allowed. I don't really think defending his territory could be considered a toxic trait for Kree under these conditions.
If by "defend his territory" you mean gatekeep harpies from seeing Clara, that's likely true, but he'd be more scared of them potentially harming her than anyone trying to steal his girl. Its up to you whether you think that's toxic or not.
So he mimics sounds and Clara taught him how to speak.
Does his voice sound like a copy of Clara’s feminine voice?
Or does he have an english/Latin American accent?
Also one thing about Kree’s hands.
Especially his palms are they like the skin you have on your palms? Sensitive to touch and smooth? Or are they more calloused like the skin on the sole of your foot? Giving him less sensitive nerves for touching?
I think Kree's inflection/speech pattern would sound similar to Clara's since he'd learning language from her, but his voice wouldn't sound like her. He knows the difference between perfect mimicking and learning words, so he doesn't copy her entirely. (But he could mimic her voice eerily accurately if he wanted to) He also doesn't really speak the southern language, he has just heard it before and knows a few words. Its not enough to give him any sort of accent there.
As for his hands, Harpies actually don't use their palms that often, they're more prone to using their talons/knuckles/feet to hold/pick things up. I wouldn't call his palms soft per se, but they're definitely more sensitive than his feet.
So we confirmed that the Harpies are infact ableist.
What I’m getting at is. When do we get Kree mean mugging someone in a wheelchair? Or with a prosthetic?
Or does Kree view his shortness as a disability of its own? (Or is it like the pot calling the kettle black lol?)
Kree is not mean-spirited like that. His ableism manifests more as pity for the disabled that comes across as ignorant/ infantilizing. It's also hypocritical since he seems able to overlook Clara's "disabilities" (being unable to fly/ do many things a harpy could do) because he's into her and because she is not a harpy (he holds harpies to a higher standard.)
As for his shortness, he doesn't see it as a disability as much as a social disadvantage. It's like being considered ugly, people make negative assumptions about your habits, cleanliness, and social skills just from looking at you. Same for his height.
Are they sleek with his general body or is he like an owl where over 45% of his “size” is just feathers?
They're actually pretty sleek! A plucked/naked harpy would look just a tad skinnier but nothing like the catfishing size of real-world birds. Harpies can poof up their feathers to regulate temperature and look bigger though!
