Noah and Millie said it mainly in jest. I only brought it back up because someone has been harassing Noah recently for saying milevan is toxic at a children's hospital visit. My point was that Millie said that they should both forget Mike first, so they should leave him alone because the attacks on him are ridiculous and he's not alone in his opinion. No one is actually saying Will should get with El (ok, that's a lie, there are a few romantic willel fans but I'm not one).

Regarding my tag about him kissing a girl, it was a reference to an interview he did where he said he wished Will had gotten to try it. I'm guessing so that his character would have that "ah ha!" moment.

correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Noah also say something about wishing Will wasn't gay so that he could have had a love interest in the show? Like there were all sorrts of red flags flying during the s5 press tour.

There's something so sad about the way El just wants to be a normal girl. Since season one. She sees a pictures of Nancy and for El Nancy become this version of a normal girl she'd like to be. Nancy is pretty so she asks Mike if she's pretty too. She wears Nancy's dress, gets a wig that has long hair because normal girls like Nancy have long hair. When Mike told her that she could live with his family and Nancy could be like her sister she asks him if he'd be her brother because Mike is Nancy's brother and she wants to be like Nancy. When El runs away in s2 and ends up in Chicago and she walks through the streets she smiles because nobody is looking at her weirdly, nobody thinks she's different. All they see her as is a normal girl walking through Chicago.

El desperately wants to fit in. She lets Kali and her friends dress her up the way they are dressed so that she looks like them, Kali says she's part of their family now. El fits in with them until she doesn't anymore. She tries to fit in, behave like the other girls when she's in Lenora too, pretends her grades are good, that she has a lot of friends, that she fits in, goes to do all the things normal girls like Angela do on the weekends.

She wants a home, searches for it in Mike's house, in Hopper's cabin, when she is with Becky, when she is with Kali, in Lenora. El wants to fit in, be a normal girl and the only time she gets it is in s3 when somebody for once doesn't tell her what to do and instead tells her to just do whatever she wants, wear what she likes, dump her boyfriend if she feels like it. Max frees El from the idea that she has to do certain things or look certain ways just to be normal. She makes El feel normal because she lets her be herself.

It's so sad how she doesn't ever get that again. It's literally been her main want since season 1 and she gets it exactly once and then never again.

Idk what exactly I want to say with this post. I've just been rewatching and realizing how much of her story is about wanting to be a normal girl. How much she does to fit in. Be with Mike, change her appearance, pretend she's good at school, pretend the people who bully her are her friends. A lot of that can be explained with other reasons but the main reason for why El does all those things is because she wants to be normal. El wants family, a home, all those things everybody else usually gets, simply by being born. But she never had that and for some reason it's so hard to find. Find people who actually want her for her, who understand her and love her exactly the way she is. It's just. Really sad to me

I feel like a lot of people have had bad experiences with an unrequited crush and project their own feelings onto Will. Will does not think that Mike is evil. Will would never need to “escape” or take a break from Mike. Will would never resent Mike or hurt him out of spite. There IS no spite. They’re best friends.

There was no big fight between them. Mike has never hurt Will on purpose and Will knows that. I’m sorry that someone hurt you, but you are NOT Will. Your toxic crush was NOT Mike. That’s some weird, made up agenda that you’re pushing.

Will adores him. He’s not some incel that insults his crush the second his feelings aren’t returned because he feels entitled to Mike’s love. He respects Mike as a friend first and foremost. He would NEVER let his own feelings get in the way of their friendship. He thinks that his feelings are his own fault. He wouldn’t punish Mike for that.

Saw someone say that thinking Mike has internalized homophobia because of "it's not my fault you don't like girls" and him not being able to touch will after he came out (what they referenced) is delusional and he's actually just a homophobic piece of shit. But like those are two perfect examples of what internalized homphobia can look like: Projection and Self-consiouness. Especially when you consider the fact that he literally stood up to Will's homophobic bullies in season 1.

That drastic change is the most important part in this case. It doesn't make sense for him to be physically aganst homophobia when he is so young, then just change his mind a couple years later for no reason. Unless when he got older, he started learning some new things about himself that he didn't like and didn't want anyone to know about.

Of course everyone is allowed their own interpretations, but to me, regardless of authorial intent, Mike absolutely reeks of internalized homophobia.

If anything, fandom should be the one place untouched by generative AI, considering that it’s supposed to be made out of love by fans of a series FOR fans of a series. There is no financial gain in creating fics, so I can’t imagine why anyone would feel the need to use AI in fic-writing other than to chase clout. This is what happens when we start treating “popular” fics and fic writers like they’re indestructible gods or something: we create a vicious cycle of consumerism in which creators feel so much pressure from fans to “just write the new chapter” that they are abandoning everything fanfiction is supposed to stand for and using AI. And if I said it’s a symptom of late stage capitalism and also a recession indicator.

Love the fact that Mike literally tells Will that the rest of his friends are great but hawkins doesn't feel the same without him, when his girlfriend also left. Then the camera does a pan to Will's heart eyes and the takeaway is supposed to be that Will has an unrequited crush on Mr. Michael "the straight" Wheeler.
