first of all, you don’t know how shallow that sounds do you? second of all this is probably going to be really messy and long so..
i don’t get why people ask these questions. it’s not like my lists of reasons’d do anything to change your opinions (especially if you chose your biases based solely on their looks. what, will a few paragraphs of words, bam, change his appearance? not really)
moving on, i just wanna start this by saying that i’m changmin/yunho biased so yeah idk how that’s gonna help but starter. there are a tons of reasons why changmin’s my bias so i guess i’ll have to categorize them? here goes.
looks: (warning: these are just my opinions. they might differ from your own but hey you can just skip this, it’s going to be really sloppily written since it’s a topic i dislike talking about)
let’s start with his physical appearance since anon mentioned it. “why do you like changmin, he’s not even that handsome" snap, really? each to their own, just because you hate bananas doesn’t mean i should hate bananas too. everyone’s ideal features differ, why did you even bother? i’d be lying if i said his looks aren’t one of the factors why he’s my bias but that doesn’t even make up half of the reasons why i like him.
most of the people who were introduced to tvxq don’t often click with changmin’s looks at first because they aren’t ‘common’ or ‘perfect’ by social standards.
his features aren’t ideal, they’re kind of awkward if you think about it. the mismatched eyes, the tall nose (with a really gorgeous curve at the tip i just-), the infamous bee stung lips, the unusual pout he has and the ears that stick out.. but when you look at his features as a whole they fit into a perfect frame somehow, with his high cheekbones and perfect jawline. just gonna add that my favorite features are still his eyebrows don’t ask how or why, they just are.
moving on to his physique. can i just say that his legs are to kill for? his body structure is really unique imo; broad shoulders, narrow waist and just slim legs that seem to go on and on forever (not to mention his tushie isn’t as flat as yunho’s ha), even his feet look good in shoes.
in conclusion: it’s not always about having socially ideal features. physical beauty dies so if you’re gonna pick a bias, looks shouldn’t be your first priority.
personality: (i feel like a disclaimer’s necessary. these are just my observations i don’t know him personally but hey you guys don’t too)
i know what you guys are expecting. “oh hey it’s another changmin biased post, surely his snark’d be mentioned right?" right. it’s not just his snark, it’s partly about his cynical personality. i admire changmin for a lot of things. he doesn’t open up to people easily, i’m similar so i guess that’s something i can relate to. in contrast to yunho, he’s well-reserved, quiet and generally negative-like. i’ve always felt like it’s his defense mechanism or some sort, because some things happened a couple of years ago (i hope we’re thinking the same)
also, i must add that having to grow up around fame and mature from the negativity isn’t something that’s easy. before the tone tour last year, he’s been saying that if he could choose, he’d rather be a regular student. keep in mind that he’s from an academic family, where both his parents are professors. being a singer probably wasn’t what he’d envisioned for himself at the start and the path proved to be tougher than expected. from the beginning, it wasn’t about hey! this is what i’m choosing to do for the rest of my life! i’m going to love doing this! no, it’s more like hey! i’m put in an unfamiliar environment with god knows what popping and locking is but i’m going to keep my head up and prove myself worthy. changmin has always been one to overcome challenges and obstacles, which is something i really admire. he might not have favored whatever he was doing in the past but he sure as hell loves his career right now, because it was all he fought and struggled for.
as mentioned, there are a heap of turning points in his singing career. the debut, somewhere in between where he felt as though he has lost his identity, the point where he felt like everything’s surreal, the growth, another point where he realizes that hey, screw the concepts, i’m going to be changmin and snark will seep through my pores from today onwards, the lawsuit, the comeback where he’s learnt to trust his abilities and the best, the part where he realized that he’s actually loving what he’s doing. sure, we cannot imagine what he has been through; the stalkers, the lack of privacy, everything.. but just the mere thought of him pushing his firm thoughts aside just to realize that he is loving what he’s doing is enough to tell us that he’s been at least, truly happy for once. (tone tour!!!!!)
changmin is smart. he’s smart enough to know when he can get away with his comments on national tv. yes i know.. most of the time you’ll just witness changmin nodding away, letting his band mate do the talking but he always knows when to add a comment, to make an impact. basically, he’s smart enough to know how to leave an impression. he’s never been mentioned as the ‘4D’ guy but he has probably had more thoughts jumbled in his mind, more than anyone else.
minfood might not be my favorite pairing because it shouldn’t even exist. really now? you’re going to ship him with food? but i do agree that his passion with food is something most of his fans can relate to. that being said, moving on.
he has a group of great friends that he trusts enough to lower the walls around him, which i think to him is more than enough. probably to avoid the needless pain of losing friendships and so that explains his defense mechanism. that’s all i’ve to say about his friends, moving on.
what i really really really like about changmin is how realistic he is. he knows for sure that tvxq will not last forever. youth is temporary, it will die and the next generation will take over. that’s why he’s working so hard, that’s why he has told the fans over and over again, repeatedly like a broken radio.. that instead of wasting our time on something momentary, we should be working for our future but of course the fans wouldn’t listen. he’s a practical person, choosing food based on their taste rather than appearance (this is just a lame example but it works) and that pretty much sums up all of him.
you might remember changmin as the bitter person, the one who’s always negative, the one whose smile’s not always there to radiate sunshine into your life and what not but he is also the one who thinks for his fans the most, he is also the one who chooses to bottle up his love and show his affections through a song after years. he might be bitter yes, you might not understand why he’s my bias yes but there’s just so much more if you looked beneath the surface. he’s not one to openly show his affections to the public, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t love his fans.
tl;dr he looks good if you like his features, he doesn’t look good if you don’t. get over him, liking him is an option it’s not compulsory.
