“Nothing. I don’t fucking know.”
“Forget it.”
arinmelnikov
“Yeah.”
“What?”
arinmelnikov
“Holding up what?” Arin made a face. “My fucking dick?”
“I’m in one fucking piece, Valdez, but I ain’t exactly thrilled that another psycho Government prick knows my fucking face.”
“That’s not much to hold up.”
“Yeah, we can take care o’em?”
arinmelnikov
“Uh-huh. I’m fucking adorable.” Arin accepted the pain killers from Chaol and knocked them back without further ado, swallowing them dry.
“You’re okay.” Chaol put the pills on the table beside them.
“How you holding up?”
arinmelnikov
“Yeah? Bring ‘im in then. Fuck’s he at?”
“You playin’ dumb is cute. Really.” He undid the cap of the bottle and passed Arin a couple tabs.
arinmelnikov
“Some ugly motherfucker who eats ass for breakfast?”
“Lunch and dinner.”
“But no, this man happens to be someone you are very attracted to.”
“Heya big baby. Guess who brought you pain killers.”

Yara took a deep breath, releasing it slowly as she thought about her answer.
“Less impactful than I’d imagined.”
For a moment, Chaol remained quiet, mulling it over. He wondered how it would feel for Bambi to take her revenge on Arden. He hoped it was more satisfying than what Yara was recounting. “What were your parents names?” He’d keep an ear out for them. The least he could do for someone.
yarakerrin
“Already did. I’m sure you remember the massacre at the New Bellagio earlier this year.”
“I killed him.”
Chaol whistled, impressed. “How’d it feel?”
yarakerrin
“Wouldn’t that have been a delicious story?”
“No; I only met him on a couple occasions. By the time he properly infiltrated my parents’ circle, I had… flown the nest.”
“So, y’gonna get revenge or...?”

“Because we’ve done business together…? I know a lot of people. What makes Sage so special?”
“Wait, are you jealous that she bakes me goodies and doesn’t bake you any?” She laughed, shaking her head slightly. “And she said she was just prepping. Anything else I can give you for free?” Zelda motioned for her notebook back.
“Nothing.”
“I wouldn’t eat any food given to me by a Toy Soldier.” Chaol shook his head, a note of disgust coloring his tone but at her last question, he grinned, all boyish playfulness again. “My bullets?”

Chaol left the wreckage where it was but picked it clean of all the goods it had to offer. By the time he’d made it to where Sage had sent him the coordinates, the body of the agent had already began to stiffen, blood dried and eyes plucked out of their sockets by the birds. He was surprised there was that much left of Arden, Chaol half expecting a bear or scavenging carrion eating beast to have sniffed the body out.
Plastic lined the trunk of his car and Arden was shoved without care into it, Chaol slamming it closed in finality.
The drive back was spent in silence, anger simmering until it boiled over. The sun set, darkness reigned and the night shift at the Government’s main headquarters took over. Milling around were security guards, but most of the agents and office workers were inside. He knew it was a stupid move but he was angry and Bambi had mentioned it to him once.
Throw his body on the Government steps. Show them they are not untouchable.
The hotheaded Lost Boy, sat in the driver’s seat for a few seconds, covered his face with a ski mask, and checked his weapons. He was wearing all black and he’d parked car wear it would be easily accessed by him but not accidentally stumbled upon by some passerby, and that was as far as he could wait. He would be lying if he said he didn’t partially enjoy hefting the lifeless body of Arden Shin over his shoulder. Each step was weighed, boots on concrete, Arden’s smell seeping into his clothes. He reached the steps and climbed, one foot after the other.
Arden Shin would never touch Bambi again, he would never torment her, look at her, enjoy her presence. He was dead and there was no medicine or Government sorcery that could bring him back. Chaol gritted his teeth and hefted the body up again, sweat beading beneath the clothes he wore. When he was close enough, he let Arden go and his body tumbled down the steps partway before stopping. He smelled like decay, felt the blood drying on him, but he never felt more satisfied as he walked back to his car. Bambi had rid herself of a man who would see her chained and brainwashed in the name of love and even if this unleashed the rage of the Government, he couldn’t find it in him to care.
Bambi was free.

“No. Sage as in the herb used to dispel evil spirits.” Zelda rolled her eyes, then looked back at the man in front of her. “Yes, that Sage.”
Zelda pulled her bag off her shoulder, then grabbed an old beat up notebook. She flipped through the pages until she got where she needed to be. “Uhhh… That.” She handed him the notebook, eyes narrowing as she did. “By the way, I don’t normally share customer info. So you kinda owe me for even telling you this information.” She grinned at him, that wolf-like one with all teeth that she reserved for special occasions.
“How ya know her?”
Chaol took the notebook, reading over the list with a growing frown on his face. “How come she needs all this?”
Arin: I need a ride from the city. Had a fucking Black OPS run-in, and my arm and my fucking ribs are broken. Don't know where the fuck my car is and I can't fucking drive with a fucking concussion.
Chaol: Don't kid yourself, Mels, y'can't drive at all. [ shuffling ] where ya at...
