My name is Michelle (she/her) and I’m a college student who doesn’t get to take as many literature classes as I would like. I’m creating this blog to talk more about books and other art that happens to be on my mind.

my 2026 new years resolution was to focus on my physical tbr. but what if I spent the next six months rereading a series I just read last year

Has anyone read Riyria Revelations by Michael J. Sullivan? I'm about 150 pages into Theft of Swords and I'm finding it really predictable/derivative (Group of guys going to a place, looking for a thing, magic rock doors that open with a secret key, orphaned protagonist who is definitely not the prophesied heir/chosen one *wink*). I usually love traditional quest fantasy, but this was pitched to me as being similar to the Gentleman Bastards books by Scott Lynch and I'm just not feeling that. Am I misinterpreting what's happening/will the formula change as I keep going?
