Artemis’ eyes widened for a moment before, seemingly out of nowhere, the fire put itself out. “Thanks for that,” she says, shaking her head and rolling her eyes.

Though emotions are usually a switch Artemis can flip, today she can’t help but grin. An advance acceptance into an elite part of the Ministry had arrived earlier, and ever since, Artemis was absolutely beaming. “I’m sorry, can you repeat that?” she asks, a kind smile on her face as she turns to her companion.

Artemis cracks a smile and laughs, understanding the sentiment. People walk by and give Alecto careful looks, and in turn, the same look is turned to her, and there’s something about this power that makes Artemis feel amazing. She holds her head high, running on this high while it lasts. “I’ve got some alcohol up in my dorm, if you want. Unless you wanna do something else,” she says.

She’s never felt this itch before, to show someone what she’s capable of. Part of her thinks I don’t have to prove myself to you, but if this girl won’t take her seriously until that’s done, Artemis figures she has no choice but to show her. There’s a sink to the left of Primrose, sturdily placed against the old cobblestone walls. Without even moving, without saying a word, the sink EXPLODES, but the debris flies right by Primrose, leaving her unharmed while porcelain is scattered at her feet. A single shard remains floating, hovering a foot from Primrose’s face. “Don’t insult me or my House.”

“very smart, murdoch.” alecto struggled to tolerate or like people who weren’t similar to her in some sense. she was very particular about who she was close to and even more so to those she trusted. it took a lot for her to reall believe someone completely but there was a slight chance artemis could be one of those few people. “well there is this terribly annoying gryffindor girl whose neck i’d love to slice open but, alas, that’s frowned upon and we could end up in a lot of trouble. so maybe next time.”

“Morals,” she huffs dramatically, laughing. “Well, I’m sure we can find some good fun without slitting throats, but that does certainly put a damper on my mood,” she says, half-joking. She smiles to herself as she walks with Alecto, a sort of pride filling her. Artemis has walked these halls with her friends before, but she’s never felt more comfortable in her skin than when she was deceiving someone. Odd, she thinks.

Immediately, Artemis smirks. “I don’t,” she says, her eyes taking on a malicious glint. Ever since that night with Alecto, Artemis has learned more about herself than she cared to, like what she’s really capable of. She laughs, humourlessly, and shakes her head. “My isolation isn’t for decoration. It’s been for me. I don’t need to sleep with the powerful; I AM the powerful,” she tells Primrose, her words more forceful than she intends them to be. Her words sounded arrogant to herself, but they felt good to say.

Primrose. Of course her name is something dainty, when she looks anything but. “Artemis Murdoch,” she says, her brow raising as the other spoke. “I know how to keep to myself.”

“they’re a bunch of filthy blood traitors is what they are.you’re on the right side of things, even if you are in the second best house here.” alecto had no respect for those in hufflepuff. fairness? justice? it all seemed rather ridiculous to her. she als had no respect for those in gryffindor but for different reasons. she hated how they held their heads up high when they had no reason to.

Alecto’s continuing approval only makes her smile, only makes her feel more accepted, and she knows that it has to be wrong to feel this way considering the approval is coming from someone like Alecto, but it still feels nice to not have people glaring at you as you walk by. Maybe the purists weren’t all bad, but a part of her had to remind her WHY she was doing this: to weasel her way into their ranks for now, to gain their trust and then betray them for the Order. Hopefully, no one in this group would be wise enough to realise just what she’s doing. “I’d rather be second best than be last,” she says, smirking. “Well, the Gryffindor first years seem terrified enough. Anything else on the agenda?”

“ Yes, absolutely, I was heading there too, ” she said pretty quickly, smiling brightly. She was heading to the library but she could always take back the book tomorrow.

“How was your day?” she asks, happy to be in the presence of a fellow Ravenclaw. The House knew what Artemis was like, and they were fine with it, so opening up and being more genuine with them was easier for her.

she leaned against the wall and watched as one of the gryffindor students fell to the floor screaming. she let out a small chuckle before turning to artemis and nodding her head. “yeah. i’ll ahave to admit, murdoch. that wasn’t half bad. you’re in the wrong house but at least it’s ravenclaw and not one of the others.“ she wrinkled her nose as she watched a professor rush by them to help the first year. they would’ve been in a lot of trouble had someone figured out they were the culprits but that’s what made it more interesting. the risk. the punishment, however, was far from it.

They walk away calmly, the kid’s screams growing distant, and a sick knot settles itself in Artemis’ stomach. Is she really in the wrong House? If this already existed in her, was Slytherin, really where she belongs? Instead of biting at her lips and freezing, Artemis exhales, trying her best to keep her composure. Perhaps years of being so stony have really paid off. “Well, after you lot, we have the most purebloods, yeah? And I mean real purebloods, not those MUGGLE lovers,” she spits.
