BandmAIt 

Year: 2020 Client: Yamaha Music / Yamaha Design Lab Photo: Joanna Wierzbicka  The BandmAIt is a music device proposing a future where musicians can play along real time with artificial intelligence. Playing an instrument together with an AI generated ”bandmate” opens up for new and unexpected dynamics and sounds. Different parameters is set before the session depending on the musician’s level and intentions, such as genre, key, instrument and time signature.

The moving stick refers to the conductor’s baton and is the communicative element of the device, showing dynamics and tempo throughout the session. Being a portable and accessible tool, the BandmAIt encourages to explore and create music on all levels.

Babybo

Recent studies show that many baby sleep products on the market contain toxins that may affect babies’ health negatively. Common used materials, such as oil-based foams, is problematic to use in a product with quite short lifetime and have a bad impact on the environment. 

Babybo is a portable baby nest that offers a safe space for babies up to 6 months. The compact design easily converts into a play mat, changing pad or sleeping pod.

The core is made of a hypoallergenic and breathable mycelium foam and banana fiber textile, tuned into different densities for comfort and stability, and further heat-pressed into soft panels creating an easy fold. All the materials and components are non-toxic and allows for a 100% biodegrading process at an industrial compost at the end of its lifetime.

Myco Slippers

Conventional slippers are often given away for free in the hospitality sector. Due to high demands on hygiene it gets thrown away when the guest leaves, creating enormous amount of waste every day. The petroleum based foam sole and mix of materials makes it an object almost impossible to recycle. 

Myco is a fully compostable alternative, made from mycelium and designed to safely return to the soil by the end of its use. Mycelium is the root system of mushrooms, an ancient organism growing under the forest floor. By using biotechnology, this process is replicated in laboratories to grow high-performance, hygienic, non-toxic and lightweight organic foams. 

When dried, the material has been pressed into different densities for sole and top. Different heat mould compression and cutting techniques has been used to create the details such as a grip pattern, perforated structure and embossed logo on top. By the end of its use, the slippers are torn apart into smaller pieces to speed up the degrading process. The pieces can be directly composted at home.

Ways of teaching and learning in primary schools are more diverse than ever. Tablets have become key learning tools and the required workspace is altered and reduced. 

Connect is a re-imagination of the traditional school chair and a nod to the table chair designs by Jean Prouvé. Traditional school chair materials, plywood and steel, are combined into a playful design. The steel structure connects the seat and table and enables different furnishings, supporting the idea of a dynamic classroom. Connect can easily be refurnished depending on the activity in the classroom.

Physical objects have been used in meditation practice since ancient times. In today’s modern psychology, mindfulness meditation is often recommended as a method to cope with stress and anxiety – a state of imbalance that often creates a quick and shallow breathing. 

Foci is an object that guides towards a deep and calm breathing. When rotating the object, the user sensate a slow movement created by a smooth resistance inside. 

By letting each inhale/exhale simply follow the slow speed of one lap, we can train the mind to become more aware of the present moment.

Exhibition design “Design processes”

The exhibition ”Design processes” tells stories about how designs evolve and how designers and producers work. Through working material, sketches and films the visitor is shown different ways of processes around the 200m2 Design Depot. The result is an open space where the relation between space and plexiglass case creates an inviting environment.

The table design supports the idea of an easy mounting, since the exhibition is going to make several stops along the way. No glue or screws are therefore used in the five different table sizes. Aesthetics and construction refers to workshops – a place where designs evolve – and therefore also to the exhibition’s theme; processes.

Siluett

The need for personal space arises easily in shared public spaces. Siluett is a flexible dividing screen that offers a physically and mentally private sphere. The light and foldable construction makes it easy to carry and shape after your needs. By embracing the user and screening off the visual field, it helps the user to focus when in need of temporary workspace. The screen surface is covered in a soft wool fabric and a layer of foam, which improves the acoustic environment and gives the product a tactile quality. Siluett adds a vivid character to the room and is useful in a range of different places such as offices, schools or libraries.

Some extra features in the screen are the two-sided colour setting, the folding tabs for chords, the hidden magnets to link several screens together and the possibility to pin notes onto it.

Nettan

Year: 2015

Nettan is the result of exploring sitting as an activity. With a strive to create an active rest – giving the user a relaxed but ergonomic posture – different curves and angles were tested throughout the design process. 

Inspired by webbing master Bruno Mathsson we designed an easy chair with a braided cotton webbing that embraces the user into a soft curved seating. Applying this onto a thin and light but steady steel structure makes it a chair useful for varying occasions. The overall expression, material and craftsmanship in Nettan all have references to classic Scandinavian design values.

Pirum

Year: 2016

Pirum are two cabinets that plays with skewness and angles, loaded with layers of symbolism in the design as well as in the materials. Their unequal relationship highlight the importance of making structures visible and act for justice. The power configuration is communicated in the degree of function as well as in the form. When you move and place the big cabinet towards a wall, the shelves inside goes from horizontal to being tilted and less useful, while the small cabinet reaches full potential, and you get access to a hidden hatch at the top.

Pirum were also my contribution to the exhibition “Together”; a collection of ten objects that displayed different interpretations of being together. The collection was exhibited during Milan design week 2016.

Mobile Wardrobe – Velour by Nostalgi

Year: 2015 Client: Velour by Nostalgi Material: Ash, powdercoated steel, brass Measurements cm: W200 D70 H185 Collaboration with Ida Eklöf Displayed: Vallgatan 12, Gothenburg, Oct 2015 Nordiska Kompaniet, Stockholm, Nov 2016 Twist plays with the boundary between public and private, a changeable frame that highlight each garment as a unique object. The mobile wardrobe consists of a framework in three parts, where the user can change and update the content. Twist was designed for the clothing brand Velour By Nostalgi to expose the spring collection in their store.

The transparent design gives Twist a light expression and enables it to serve as a room divider in addition to its main function. It creates recognition to the crea- tive home through its playful framework and the twist in how the garments are shown. The construction is kept simple but pays attention to details. The materials were chosen with sustainability in mind and with the aim to communicate honesty, which goes in line with the brands philosophy.
