im so sick of unnecessary dinner scenes in movies 😡 every fucking movie they just want to titillate you with some food because they think you’re a dumb animal who just wants to see mashed potatoes bouncing. if its an IMPORTANT dinner scene where they explain lore then whatever i understand. but they shove useless meals into every movie these days and its disgusting

that's a whole lot of conclusions to draw from a satire post that was specifically pushing back on the idea that sex, as a storytelling device, is inherently gratuitous, dirty, lazy, or artistically suspect. i don't think women and women's bodies arent disproportionately objectified in media. i don't think every sex scene is well-executed. i don't think criticism of the male gaze is invalid whatsoever. i have plenty to say about all of that.

what i dont agree with is the increasingly common attitude that the solution is to approach any depiction of sex with disgust and derision by default, or to assume that a sex scene has to justify its existence more than any other kind of scene. that feels more like a step toward treating sex itself as uniquely suspect rather than allowing room to ask how it's being used and what it accomplishes. those are different conversations, i feel, and not a distinction i felt was necessary within the original post.
