Did a handful of expressions to help get back into the swing of drawing, I’ve been kinda lazy for a bit and I need to get to working on things again I’m still kinda wanting to do more of these, so if any of you has any suggestions, please send me a message/dm
Scammer warning
So just a few hours ago I got backcharged few hundred dollars for animated commission by this fella:
https://stormyclopblog.tumblr.com/
Discord: Stormy#0539
His OC on derpibooru stella (link)
Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJHNOU3OegZ3SKVo7288n1Q Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/stormhunterzlive
Steam: http://steamcommunity.com/id/StormyRampage/
After contacting him he decided to block me everywhere without any explanation.
Fellow artists warning.
He nuked his own tumblr while I was preparing this,
Thanks to those who watched the stream, and thanks to @cowsrtasty, @graboiidz, @jargwellprescott and @chuckorjerkface for joining a multi with me, I had a lot of fun! Anyway, I tried out a new style that I’ve been developing for a future project I’ve been working on, I’m really happy with how it came out, and hopefully I can get around to drawing more like this soon.
Who tf are you
It’s fun to draw art for other people.
But if you’re doing it with the intent strictly of them promoting you, and you feel obligated to attention from them from doing it, that aint fun for anyone.
“What’s the point of making art if I won’t get popular???”
Don’t be this person.
I’ma go into more details cause this is actually about a specific person.
This person, who I won’t name (but you probably can figure it out if you research at all), is upset that his fanart he made for people wasn’t being reblogged.
In some cases it was missed. In others it was because the ‘fanart’ was graphically violent.
When he doesn’t get reblogged, he responds with rage and by making threats against the artist, often drawing their characters being murdered and eviscerated (e.g., hung, limbs missing, gore, etc.)
I’m not inclined to reblog someone if my reasons for reblogging would need to include “I don’t want to be harassed.” I love getting fanart as long as the artist has made an honest attempt and is genuine (and it doesn’t conflict with any sensitivities). Threats and viewing people like stepping stones are not genuine.
He has openly stated the primary reason he makes art for people is because he wants popularity. It is very obviously and completely self-serving.
This is the kind of person there is no hope for, but I’m sharing this in hopes that it’s a good lesson on what it looks like to others when someone acts this way.
Do not make a toxic pursuit of popularity. And do not put people up on pedestals like this guy does.
Not sure if it’s the same person, but I’ve also been targeted by someone like this. They sent me gore art of one of my friend’s characters, and whined and cried about how they never get any reblog.
Folks lemme just clarify that this a fast track to getting blacklisted by any artist community.
And if this person really wants fame, I’m sure people would be more then happy to point and laugh at their shitty art.
Sleeping on the sun. Since I really like this Idea I’m going to keep it rolling and give it it’s own little spot on the internet. I plan to do all sorts of things from answer questions to just general art of the pair on here so stick around and hopefully it’ll be some fun! I plan to be uploading responses/drawings on minimum twice a week.
Redlining and “Aesthetics” in art and the personal journey
http://dsp2003.tumblr.com/post/166561051244/explaining-mistakes-in-someones-drawing-or-a
@dsp2003 This is in response to the link above. I’m not reblogging the entire thing because it’s quite a lot to scroll down to.
Also I want to preface this by saying that I’m not a huge fan of making one of these pretentious rants about drawing on my blog but this is probably a first so maybe you can all forgive me.
TL;DR - It’s a personal journey for the student and it’s going to take thousands of bad drawings to “git gud” - also draw a lot
Great breakdown, DSP. The trouble is that a individual’s definition of “aesthetic” usually changes as they progress in their art journey. Its a combination of personal skill, visual library, and their current taste in art. Explaining to someone why something doesn’t look “aesthetic” is very difficult because its like explaining to someone why you have a particular taste in music and they “just dont get it.” Even if they say they “get it,” they still don’t get it. This is normal. It’s going to take them 100s or thousands of more drawings to begin fixing their issues and to “get it” because they’re having to combat so many personal factors, tendencies, and biases.
Artistic dogmas are always going to get in the way of this, too. “Your way” may look wrong to another artist. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how to offer advice to beginners because I know how it is. I’ve only been drawing for a few years so those trails and tribulations are fresh in my mind (and of course i’m still a student). You can tell someone something “looks wrong” all day. You can probably even SHOW them (as you just did). But they’re not going to “get it” - possibly for a very long time. That is just that’s how it goes. It doesn’t mean they’re a bad person, or a bad student - that’s just how growing works. It’s all going to break down to their own personal journey and how they choose to go about studying and how deliberate they are about it. It’s going to take hundreds of “bad” drawings before they get to the good ones. You can’t sit here and critique each one; that’s a waste of your time - that’s a waste of anybody’s time. And to be honest it (sometimes) robs the student’s experience of figuring it out for themselves.
So what can we do? Tediously redlining, correcting, and badgering does nothing. Sometimes that even discourages a student, even when they ask for it. There are hundreds of “how to draw pony” tutorials and videos out there that a person can use and cater to their own use. Personally I found it better to gently guide a person. Recommend artists (pony or not) that you feel they may like or gravitate towards. It takes a lot of personal ups and downs for the artist to figure out “who am I? What do I like?”- Most of all I recommend to EVERYONE that they should be studying from life. Yeah it’s boring and tedious - but life is the best teacher.
Knowledge and understanding of anatomy of all kinds of animals are going to play a heavy factor in getting better at art. Becoming a student of life will help make the most art gains out of everything. Draw from life, draw animals, draw people, draw everything. Read books - fiction, non-fiction, anatomy books; everything. Look at art, all kinds of art. Your “visual library” will grow and your tastes will change over time. Most of all you learn about YOU - your personality will show in your drawings. Your art will improve the more you take from life and apply it to your drawings. That is the best way to learn what’s “aesthetic.” And its solely left up to the student to figure out what’s best for their journey.
Also draw a lot.

This here is @chefjulienne’s Tender Breeze as a “slutty angel”. The skirt’s sort of blah, and the straps for her top are, too, but I like how the halo came out, and the rest of the costume comes together nicely. Also tum.

A doodle of winnie the werewolf I did last night. Thought I'd just put it online somewhere for the heck of it.
Bonus bun! Because I wasn’t overly happy with the previous outfit design. @naked-sharks
