fern's deal is they're part of a separate reindeer pack (designation tba) that primarily deals with crowd control and apprehension. many reindeers in this pack wield the typical staves associated with the 4th pack, but fern (among many others) carries a snare pole variant. brainwaves get converted into electricity, which courses through the wire loop on the pole. the poles have very little offensive capabilities in comparison to weapons in the r corp arsenal. therefore, to compensate, those who wield them are usually either highly skilled in hand to hand combat or are permitted to keep secondary implements on their person (such as a pistol, a taser, a knife, etc). fern is in the former camp by virtue of having exceptional innate strength and bulk
