For all my love for AOT, this will follow to be canon only for as long as I think canon does these poor victims of the story justice.
Excerpt:
“So, young lady, I heard you are a friend of Eren Jaeger?” Darius Zackly leaned back in his big, comfortable wing chair and folded his hands in his lap, staring at Sinia who had brought him some tea and files. The best were the cookies she had put onto the tray as an extra treat.
“Ehm…” Sinia didn’t know how to respond. She wasn’t a real friend, she just happened to know him and since she and her friends had tried to protect him from getting shot by a cannon ball, they were considered friends. “I wouldn’t put it that way.”
“That’s interesting.” He took a cookie, bit into it and chewed slowly. Unnervingly slowly. “I heard you were helping him. Isn’t that what friends do? Help each other?” His stare was almost unbearably sharp and calculating.
Sinia shivered under those eyes. And honestly, she couldn’t think about anything to say. Because everything would indicate that either she did it out of loyalty or friendship, or because she did have nothing else to do. The more she was surprised as she heard herself say: “I have a hero-complex.”
