“After I don’t know how many crosses, one came for Christian that could get the equaliser!” - @CesarAzpi
Giroud dropped to one knee and pointed to the sky to celebrate when he gave Chelsea a 2-1 win at Villa Park.
“It was a tribute to George Floyd and Black Lives Matter.”
“I would love people to show more love to each other and eradicate this kind of hate. I want to stand for that kind of cause, racism, anti-Semitism, homophobia.”
Aston Villa 1-2 Chelsea
Christian Pulisic came off the bench to play his part and Olivier Giroud was on target as the Blues recovered from a half-time deficit to win on a historic occasion, our first-ever competitive game behind closed doors.
The board of Chelsea Football Club would like to update our fans, our staff, our community and our other stakeholders of certain actions the club is taking during the coronavirus crisis.
Further update on what action Chelsea FC is taking during the Coronavirus pandemic, a summary
ALL staff will get 100% wage, the club can confirm we will not be taking advantage of the Government’s current Coronavirus Job Retention
Casual workers (match-day workers) will get compensated through 30 June as if matches had been played and we had been operating as normal.
No changes to the level of financial and other support to our professional women players and women’s academy programmes.
COMPENSATION TO FANS: travel and accommodation costs up to £350 per ticket holder
No need (yet) to lower wages of the players, instead they are encouraged to contribute to charitable causes as they are already doing “At this time, the men’s first team will not be contributing towards the club financially and instead the board have directed the team to focus their efforts on further supporting other charitable causes.”
Continue providing accommodation for NHS staff; to date 128 rooms have been allocated in hotels located at Stamford Bridge
Providing free meals to the NHS and charities that support the elderly and vulnerable groups, this commitment has now been increased to 81,000 meals.
UK charity Refuge to raise awareness and valuable funds to support women and children experiencing domestic abuse during the pandemic. The club is matching the donations received by Refuge over a six-week period
The Chelsea Foundation is working hard to support our communities and those in need and the club will continue to support this work.
The Foundation’s education team has produced daily workbooks for children no longer attending schools while they are also running virtual classroom sessions for children of key workers.
Foundation staff have also been supporting local foodbanks with deliveries while more than 10,000 participants took part in our virtual soccer schools during the Easter holidays.
Among other activities, staff are staying in contact with elderly Chelsea fans and supporting parents of disabled participants via online drop-in clinics.
During these unclear and difficult times it’s more than before becoming important to show solidarity and support to those who might have worse than you or even find the right places to go if you are in need of help.
I made a short masterpost of all charity or initiatives Chelsea is involved in if people are either in need or looking to support.
CHELSEA FOUNDATION
Formed in 2010, the Chelsea Foundation brings together the Football in the Community and the Education department along with the club’s other charitable and community activities, including our international work and anti-discrimination projects.
The foundation is very busy helping out wherever possible, be it Digitally or donating to local Food Banks. Head over to their twitter page to see if you can help too
PLAN INTERNATIONAL
Plan International – our global charity partner – works in over 75 countries and is currently responding to the effects of coronavirus around the world. Click here to donate to their Corona Virus Appeal
REFUGE
Last year, 1.6 million women in the UK endured domestic abuse. With lockdown threatening to worsen the situation, Chelsea is partnering with Refuge to raise money and awareness.
For every £1 raised, Chelsea will match it - so why not donate today? http://donate.refuge.org.uk/Chelsea. Now, more than ever, we need to reach women and their children who need our support.
Players
Reece James has teamed up with four other Premier League players to spearhead an initiative to aid National Emergencies Trust in the midst of the Covid-19 crisis.
Joe Cole has set up an initiate called HEROES to support the NHS
