noble human origin in dao is so. funny and tragic to me. it's a regular Tuesday, you're some son of a fantasy-equivalent duke, and your father & brother are riding out to assist the king in a battle against demonic forces and you have to stay home because you're the spare (boo, you wanna fight so bad). but uh oh! shit goes tits up when your FATHER'S CLOSEST FRIEND says "hey! i think it's time for a coup against your father!" and he proceeds to kill your nephew and sister-in-law and then also your parents. brother is MIA. some dude named duncan was gonna recruit another guy into his super special order that fights the aforementioned demonic forces. but things are tits up so i guess?? you're getting conscripted now??? so you join up with duncan and then go to assist the king with demonic forces after dealing with the betrayal and massacre of your family. you have to do a lot of bullshit right off the bat, like getting demon blood?? and then?? there's a super secret ritual in order to join this order where you have to drink the demon blood, and hey! you might not survive it! but golly gee, thank the maker you did, that would've been bad. and then it's time to battle those demonic forces, and you gotta light the beacon in order to call on the troops of some guy whose vibes are little rancid. but hey those troops never arrive and you sort of die. you get rescued by a swamp witch. you and some dude who has only been apart of this order for six months are the sole survivors. congrats on the second betrayal within less than 5-7 business days. now go save realm!!
