Air quality continues to be poor and now tomorrow we have a severe storm warning and even risk of tornadoes in the area!

So I do 3D modeling and printing as a hobby, and a few weeks ago I designed wheel guards meant to prevent office chairs from running over cables and clothes... or your pet's tail.

I got the idea from cowcatchers old locomotives used to have.

Anyways, yesterday I uploaded the model to Thingiverse, and just hours after uploading it, the Community Relationship Manager of the whole website left a comment suggesting I enter the model into a competition that's currently being held on the site.

So I did... and now it's in third place not even a day later. First place is $500, but the competition still has a month to go.

Then the Community Manager contacted me again, telling me they want to feature my model in an upcoming design promotion.

Just, what is happening? I mostly made this thing for myself in, like, an hour, and now it's suddenly super popular? This is all a little bit overwhelming 😵‍💫

Other models I worked on for weeks didn't get nearly as popular. I swear, it's impossible to predict what people will like.

Hey y'all, my kitties have vet appointments coming up next week and it would be really cool if you guys could order stuff from my shops to help me out with the bill. I don't have an estimate right now of how much it's gonna be so I'm kind of stressing a little bit about it, I know I'll be able to afford it, I just don't know how much I'll have left over if that makes sense.

Today’s installment of Poor Mikey involves the boy getting so spooked that he tore a hole in one of his mother’s favorite shirts

And since I don’t have the funds to replace it right now due to a vet bill of unknown amount coming up, I am sewing and patching it. Also it’s not big enough of a hole to really warrant a total replacement if mending is a viable option.

Another public service announcement. This time it’s air quality. Some of you are probably in it already if you’re in eastern Canada, New England or New York, but it’s sliding south, a huge mass of wildfire smoke. Please be careful. When it starts getting bad, especially, like when the sky gets orange or brownish, it’s best to run air purifiers in the house and wear N95 or KN95 masks when you have to go outside.

It harms your lungs and it’s especially bad for children (and pets!) or anyone with health problems. There are all kinds of chemicals in that smoke. It’s not only trees that are burning. The heat already makes it harder to breath. This makes it worse.

Also, throw out the mask every day and shower before you get in bed if you’ve been out or you’ll be breathing the particles all night. Stuff like that. It gets all over you, your skin, your hair, your clothes.
