We keep getting a lotta requests to add in undertale characters, and since a good chunk of msparp has evolved into undertale rp, I’ve decided to go ahead and add its characters to the selection list. I’ve been talking with the rest of the staff and getting their thumbs up as well, but most of them are too busy with other things so I’m going to be the one making the characters. BUT. i have not played this game and am unfamiliar with the characters and I would like to see if anyone is willing to help out with this sometime this weekend. I’ll probably make a group chat or something, but please like this post if you’re interested.

wtf. sorry, but this seems like a short-sighted decision. why add another fandom just because it’s en vogue now? 

it’s making the character selection seem arbitrary and cluttered in the long run. at least Hussie’s the author of the other listed canons and wrote crossovers between them, even if they arguably have less staying power than a game like undertale. 

even so, the demand for undertale rp will naturally wane because it’s a stand-alone title, but it’ll be difficult to take the option away once people got used to it. 

would you have made the same exception for earthbound (homestuck’s “root”) or super dangan ronpa (had lots of homestuck fans) back in the day?

It’s not a short sighted decision. It’s something we’ve been considering for months. I actually went around to different group chats and discussed the possibilities with them and took votes. And then I waited two months to see if the interest would die fast. It didn’t. The list wont be extensive; there will be a few main characters and then a general tag for the less popular characters. I don’t know if you use the new site, but about 35-40% if not more, of the chats there either are undertale or have undertale rpers in them. That number keeps growing. 

I wouldn’t have made those exceptions at that time, because it used to be incredibly difficult to add and remove characters. Also, I didn’t ever see such an overwhelming amount of chats for either of those fandoms. I’m interested in adding undertale, because it’s possible now and I see a lot of potential from their fandom. Chances are, they will stick around longer than you think. People enjoy having sites that make them feel welcome. Honestly, homestuck is dying. Most of the people who are abandoning/ no longer interested in homestuck went to undertale, because it has the same sort of feel about it and attracted the same fans. 

With the upcoming design changes, the checkboxes will not be as cluttered. Uncheck the entire section if you don’t want to run into undertale characters. It’s alright if you don’t agree with this decision; it probably wont affect you very much in the long run. The rpers are already there, en masse; they will just have preset characters now. If interest dies down after a few years I can just shorten the list, but I don’t think that will become necessary.

it’s short-sighted for a homestuck rp site.

of course if it’s not your goal to garner homestuck fans, but to hang onto the same community of (former) homestuck fans which is already used to the site format, then you’re fine for now until someone makes a more convenient site just for undertale fans. 

it’s short-sighted because catering to this community is a moving target. homestuck started “dying” after just one, two years of mild hiatus. why should undertale be different?

how do the people who can’t stand the existence of prompts that they find distasteful in the sfw or nsfw category handle fanfiction?

I’m guessing most don’t check them every day and for characters/pairings they don’t like. Do they read them at all? Would it help if you could sort the prompts by character and pairings? It’s certainly more difficult to encounter nothing you don’t like when searching ao3.

Or do they just object to the more “active” nature of reenacting/demanding those tropes in rps?

I’m only rping with 2 people right now, with one I have 1-3 ongoing chats (whenever they reply) and the other one is an Alpha Rose who is so damn reliable and great. 

there might have been rps I was more excited about, but none of them kept their promise and none of them built up like this.

they had not washed their hair... in three days!!!

they had not slept in 24 hours! gasp! the character is going off the rails!

of course it’s not always easy to find a balance between “unusual but not automatically a sign for a mental illness” and “grotesque extreme” but sometimes I wonder what kind of lives these people lead when they think this is shocking self neglect that matches total break downs. maybe teenagers nowadays are just less sloppy and have more meddling parents?

so newparp lets you save chats now and see if they have updated? huh... I really only had one long-term msparp chat so far and it was para, where cherubplay would have been preferable if my partner used it.  

so this is a totally new usage for me. until now it’s been a rp-on-the-fly website, have a chat with no commitment - thing.

I think the cherubplay tag is more crass since they changed the tag function to not show the number of new posts anymore. less invested people (aka more sensible ppl tbh) check the tag less, which makes it a more undiluted shithole that will burn pants off and leave everyone bootybothered.

So we had a speaker on domestic violence and abuse at my school yesterday and all I could think of during the presentation was Cherubplay.

Assuming she knew what she was talking about…

All those people looking for extremely possessive or controlling characters? We’re talking an abusive relationship. That’s what abusive relationships are all about; control.

Slave kink and pet play? That’s a sign of an abusive relationship, right there.

Manipulative bottoms? Textbook case.

No wonder so many people get into abusive relationships. They’re literally fetishized. Or at any rate, their symptoms are, which makes it really difficult to see the real thing.

I think you should have listened to that speaker instead of thinking about a roleplaying site where everyone rps consensually and is able to stop at any time, where both are in full control and can get help from a mod. 

Equating the moment when I had to barricade my bedroom door from a family member to avoid getting beaten- to reading a text chat where someone asks what I want to avoid and which kinks I would enjoy, while I drink tea- is bizarre. The most graphic rape scene in a rp will never be as real as the day to day situation of an abusive relationship. 

Stop trivializing real domestic violence and abuse, if you actually mean well. 

Otherwise you just come off as someone who’s using a cause to tell people what to enjoy in rps to feel superior and self-righteous. Because I bet you don’t harass the fanfic writers whose stories are trendsetting the popular AUs.
