Bodies at Rest: Bound Up in this Place Installation 2014

This is an installation created out of wooden lath removed from a gutted and abandoned home. The figures represent residual presences in vacant houses and the stories of those who have been displaced. "Bodies at Rest" will be on display at ShowPODS in Chicago on S. Halstead, September-October 2014.

Chicago Tree Project Hand-carved, Relief Inked, Condemned Elm Tree 40’ (approximate tree height), 10’ relief in the round 2014 

Pictured: Nicolette Ross working on her Washington Park tree. She is one of 10 artists involved in the “Chicago Tree Project” - a summer 2014 citywide plan to transform sick and dying trees into vibrant public art. This is a collaborative project between Chicago Sculpture International artists and Chicago Parks District and is part of the greater initiative to expand the reach of public art in Chicago.

In Recovery Video, scanned photographs manipulated using GoldMosh software 2013

In 2006, my father Kevin Hovet suffered a stroke at the age of forty-three. Although he was not diagnosed to recover, today he is healthy but retains moderate short-term memory loss. By combining processes of digital manipulation and the re-structuring of found footage, this cycle of experimental videos explores the impulse to gain control over an uncontrollable event and how images decay as much as memories.

Interactive artwork inspired by the fact that poisonous materials has been found in more than 77 million drug capsules in China 2012. This drug scandal aroused widespread public concern regarding China’s increasingly serious food and drug safety issues over the past few years.

Part of the project “Metamorphosis/USA” and the series “Calendar of traces”. Shapes and textures from the surrounding environment become the visual vocabulary for the work through a documentation process. The project takes place in real time during a three month journey across the United States, July-October 2014. Each day is represented by a drawing, in this case by a trace collected from an electrical outbox on Michigan Ave. Chicago.
