VIDIOT - Serato VSL Mix

Here's the live mix of VIDIOT, a version performed in one take with Serato and the Serato VSL video plug-in.  Kind of a proof-of-concept experiment for live video mixing, editing in After Effects, and dvd production.

My good friend and constant collaborator Redshift has been experimenting the past few years with building and modding electronics for music.  He pieced together a custom faceplate that reads the fader position [and other optional midi triggers] and sends it thru USB to the computer to control the video crossfader.  It's called the Shif-Switch and you can order it now for one million dollars... This footage has been laying around for awhile, so i thought i'd post it. I did this to test if i could record multiple cameras and a screen capture while running Torq without crashing my laptop.  Not much to it... cut and run. Used 2 webcams instead of my dv-cam for some reason, and they don't really catch all the motion very well.

Smooth As Glass b/w Neuro-Comp

I did these two 4-track mixes over 3 or 4 months and never released them in any form.  Made with my Tascam 4-track and a combination of samplers, turntables and effects (including the Vestax DSG-05 sampler for unique 9bit digi-distortion).  I did both of these with no traditional rap verses over the top, i guess trying to showcase blending and scratching.  Smooth As Glass Recorded in December of 2000, tons of scratching and bassy beats. Vocal, Instrumental and 2 Acapella versions Neuro-Comp This one isn't labeled, but i think i did it shortly before Smooth As Glass, so mid-2000. Vocal, Instrumental and Alternate Vocal versions I handed this out to a one or two people, but never did any art or packaging for it.  This was between cassettes and widespread cd's, so without a good burner, a few projects never saw the light of day.  Neuro-Comp is kind of introspective at that time i think, i'd like to do a better mixdown of it.

Your Props Are In The Mail b/w Splaid

Recorded live on Stephen Kayes saturday Late Night Beat Generation show on WMSE, with a couple of self produced intros and outtros. I switched up some Eddie Harris on the intro to make him talk about an experience in Milwaukee instead of Minneapolis... and there's a little scratch piece that i produced near the end of Splaid. The stickers on this cassette were reported to peel up and get stuck in peoples car decks.

Sequence Volume 2 Un-Re-Edit is a 4-track blend mix made using a combination of samplers and turntables.. trying to name specific artists would start to get tedious so i'm going to avoid it.  Various artists then.   Side 2 is a collection of remixes that i produced on a combination of equipment... a Roland w-30 and my Akai s950 plus a bunch of pedals, an Alesis effects rack or two and my Tascam 4-track.

Sequence 2.5 Layover 1995 is a 4-track blend mix, remixing with acapellas and instrumentals using turntables and samplers.  I just noticed that the art says it's an excerpt from another release, but that isn't right. Wu-Tang Bang is a 4-track blend as well.  I found a bootleg Wu-Tang record of radio freestyles from their first European tour and mixed the best performances over different Wu-related instrumentals.  The vocals were mixed extra-loud on the record, so that made it easier to set them over different tracks.

Tales of the One Trick Pony b/w Retro-Fit

I released these two mixes together on cassette.. I think they had basic sticker-art, but I haven't been able to find a copy.  The tapes may have had a remix or two tacked on, but without the original retail tape, I dunno which ones.

Recorded live at The Boathouse, probably right after I got my Vestax 05q mixer with crossfade curve control and Shure 44m cartridges.
