a lot of things have to go into the vagina before she can push something out. she’s had plenty such things inserted and withdrawn over the past nine months, and she’s used to being in this position. of course, she’s at the point of pregnancy where things start to get a lot more invasive and uncomfortable, so she might be be experiencing something new today.

she just finished moaning, struggling, thrashing, breathing through another awful contraction, and now the doctor says he needs to check dilation again. contractions hurt, but at least with contractions she’s free to focus on her own coping methods, even if it’s just plain writhing. now she needs to get into this uncomfortable position and hold still while the doctor digs his fingers into her. she’s not even close to being ready to push; what’s the point?

the doctor finishes and she goes back to struggling through contractions. until she needs to open her legs for the doctor again.
