Toddlers can "cook" too! Making a snack counts as cooking. Young children can "read" a recipe by following picture instructions. They also learn how to follow directions and be independent through cooking activities.

Use food to teach colors! Use pictures or the real items. Record the colors on a graph and you can also bring in math skills!
Use empty boxes and containers to fill your child's "kitchen." Show her the name of the food to incorporate literacy awareness. Set up a "store" and go shopping too!
Introduce cooking utensils at a young age with PLAY! Add rice to a sensory table or large box/bin. Fill with spoons, funnels, measuring cups, etc. Talk with your child as you play--tell him the names of the objects and what they are used for in cooking.
Here are just a few of the books in our Resource Library, which is FREE to all parents/caregivers and child care providers. In honor of Take Your Dog to Work Day, we've featured some dog books.
Chip and Buckley are getting friendly!
Margie brought her dog, "Honey" to work today :)
Chip came to work wearing our Team colors. Need help finding child care? Call his mom in our Resource and Referral department!
Here's Felix! His mom works in our Financial Assistance department.
Miss Harper Lee, with her own, Lisa.
Our staff loves their 4-legged family members!
Take your dog to work day! Meet Sam!
Grocery store bag book
Use a paper grocery bag to create an enviornmental print book. Cut out food brand names from packages to fill the pages!
Sponge play: cut ordinary kitchen sponges into strips. Secure with a rubber band. A great addition to indoor or outdoor water play!
Math with jug tops? Yes!
sort them by color
compare the sizes: which are the same? bigger? smaller?
use them to make patterns
use them as nesting toys: which ones can fit inside each other?
Identical sets of coasters make a great matching game!
Cover every day boxes with colored contact paper--now you have bright building blocks!
