☆ Post 3/3 • Canals ☆

For a college assignment, we had to design a set of postal cards based on the capital of any country, so I picked Amsterdam! :^)

I decided to go with a modern Art Deco style for this project, since it is commonly used in travel posters and felt like the perfect fit for a postal card.

For this last one, I illustrated the canals, since Amsterdam is famously known for its beautiful waterways.

I chose the Herengracht canal specifically—fun fact: today, there are over 2,500 houseboats along the canals, and many people actually live in them!

And that wraps up the set! I had so much fun working on it and ended up really enjoying the modern Art Deco style. You might be seeing more of it from me in the futute :^) I also learned a lot about Amsterdam and the Netherlands, a place I've wanted to visit ever since a second-grade project I did on Dutch food. One day...

For this second one, I chose to illustrate cheese wheels because cheese is a big part of Dutch culture, especially in their traditional markets and exports.

For a college assignment, we had to design a set of postal cards based on the capital of any country, so I picked Amsterdam! :^)

For this first card, I illustrated the iconic tulip fields, inspired by the famous Tulip Mania of the 1600s, which was an economic bubble where tulip bulbs were once worth more than gold.

Fun fact: despite what I previously mentioned, tulips aren’t actually native to the Netherlands and don’t grow wild there, so the national flower is actually the daisy!
