A new Netflix TV show called âCrew Girlâ is coming out on September 10, and Iâve been obsessed with it ever since I first heard about it a few months ago. The plot is about a girl who moves to a small town, starts attending a private school, and becomes the manager of an all-boys rowing team. It sounds kind of weird, but at the same time really interesting. What Iâm most excited about is that itâs an original. Itâs not based on a book, and itâs not a reboot. I love reading books. Iâve read plenty of books that were later adapted into movies or TV shows. I understand when people say, âThat didnât happen in the book,â or âThis character wasnât supposed to appear until later.â I get it. Sometimes Iâm that person too. But what annoys me is when people nitpick absolutely everything. The smallest change happens, and they completely lose it. Like, âJustin from Off Campus is supposed to be a football player, not a musician,â even though, logically, being a musician actually fits the storyline better than being a football player. But no, apparently we have to have a meltdown over it. I also think original projects leave more room for surprises. Sometimes actors have great chemistry, and itâs fun to see where that goes without fans immediately shutting down every possibility because theyâre comparing everything to the source material. And we also need to talk about bad adaptations. Why would you ruin a perfectly good book? Maybe Crew Girl wonât end up being amazing. I have no idea. But itâs refreshing to see a completely original teen TV show, and thatâs enough to make me excited for it.
