Rome so far.
Pompeii
So this last week I traveled mostly through Scotland (Glasgow, Oban, and Edinburgh) with my Mother. It's a beautiful country with some very hospitable people. I am definitely going to come back here at some point in my life and explore more of the Highlands. Oban was definitely a highlight as it was tucked away on the coast along some pretty steep cliffs. The distillery in Oban definitely didn't hurt the image :). Our last full day in Scotland was spent exploring the Fringe festival in Edinburgh. It was a lot of fun watching all of the performers in the street during the day, and we managed to catch one theater show at night.
*Late update
So I had an amazing time in Berlin. This last night was a little bittersweet though. I had made some amazing friends in Prague that ended up being in Berlin at the same time but this night was our last together. It was sad to say goodbye and not know when (or if) I will ever see them again.
Despite the goodbyes, our last night together was pretty amazing and about as magical as our last night in Prague.
Berlin is an amazing city. There is so much to see here it's unbelievable, but my favorite part of this city is it's emerging young culture. This definitely a place I could live in at some point in my future.
Tonight is my last night here and I am going to go visit the parliament building. It is supposed to be quite astounding.
Tomorrow I fly out to Glasgow where I will meet up with my Mom to explore some of Scotland and Northern England.
My time in Prague was fantastic. I met some amazing people, saw some fantastic sights, consumed many tasty foods and beverages, but I had to move on to Berlin!
Here are some photos from my last night in Prague. There were fireworks on the river near Rudolfinum, cool bugs making patterns in the lights on Charles Bridge, and lightning over the Prague Castle.
It's been a real blast here. Met some really cool from all over the world; Brasil, Chile, Peru, Turkey, Finnland, England, Holland...
Managed to rent a paddle boat with 5 other people and chill out on the river drinking beer and enjoying the sun. Quite an amazing experience all around.
Prague is amazing! Just been walking around and enjoying the views and night clubs. Not much of a journal entry right now but here are some photos of the city so far!
I woke up today and wandered down to the Englischer Garten. I watched the famous river surfers for awhile before heading to the beer garden at the chinese tower within the park. I enjoyed a liter of Weissbier before heading back to get some food and a quick rest.
After refueling I headed to the train station to meet a bier garten guided tour. The tour was a blast and a great way to meet new people. Quite a few of the people I met are planning on being in Prague at the same time as me. After getting sufficiently buzzed I managed to stumble my way back to the hostel and pass out.
In the morning I meet my new roommates and we all head out to go back to the gardens. It was a very nice afternoon and we layed down on benches for a siesta after another beer under the Chinese tower. The siesta was abruptly interrupted by a heavy downpour and we ran for shelter under the nearest tree. A friendly German lady who took shelter with us guided us to the nearest bus stop and we laughed our way back to the hostel in our soaking wet t-shirts. Good timing too because my head began to hurt quite badly from the night before. I think I will take it easy tonight and book my next hostel in Prague for tomorrow.
(The first photo is of the sun rise shining down a canal in Venice)
I moved to the Hostel where I will be staying the next three nights today. After dropping off my bags I wandered to the city center to explore. Marienplatz is absolutely gorgeous and teeming with people. Around every corner there was another monastery or church to explore, many of which had their own biergartens I heard some traditional bavarian brass band music and I wondered what my old band conductor would think if I was drinking weissbier between songs.
I dipped my feet in a cold creek for awhile and made my way back to have a siesta. Too bad .5l bottles of Hacker-Pschorr oktoberfest were just less than a euro a piece. I'm pretty sure that's cheaper than steel reserve back home. Landjager and bier followed by a nap.
I awoke to my new roommates Dan and Rachelle settling down from a tour. I talk to them for a bit and they invite me out to dinner with their friend Floren(Spelling?). I enjoyed a nice german plate with turkey medallions over cheesy spaetzle and champagne mushrooms. I also get to try some real veal schnitzel. The conversations were fun and much appreciated after a few days traveling solo.
After dinner we head over to Hofbrauhaus to experience a real Munich beer hall and garden. It was rowdy and loud and everything I had imagined it to be. We ordered our liters of beer and took in the sights and sounds to end the night.
Entering hofbrauhaus
Today I woke up at sunrise and wandered the streets of Rome as the shopkeepers began to open their doors for the day. I grabbed a shot of espresso and wandered around for a bit before buying one of the best peaches I have ever had in my life for .10 euros.
When I came back to the room to grab my belongings my Slovanian dorm-mate Sandy asked me where I was off to. When I told him Venice he quickly gave me some street advice and suggested a pizzeria "Il Rifolo". I thanked him and headed out.
After returning my keys and sharing a quick laugh with the hostel host, I headed to the train station to catch my ride to Venice.
Immediately upon entering the train, I throw my backpack on the storage rack and prepare to sit down when suddenly a steady stream of liquid begins to flow on my shoulder. I look up and realize that it is coming from my pack and I started scrambling to reach inside and find the problem. When I opened my pack I see the 3/4 full bottle of wine from the night before laying on its side with the cork nowhere to be found. I quickly grabbed my laptop from underneath and then snatched the bottle up wrapped in an article of clothing. Ignoring the stares of the passengers around me I try and mop up the remaining liquid unsuccessfully. After about 10 minutes of mopping and trying to make it so that the unlucky person next to me doesn't have to sit in a puddle of wine, the train begins to move. Dear God, there is no one next to me and there is an empty aisle in front of me with a window view! Logically (and very American of me) I moved ahead and ignored the mess I made.
Stepping off of the train in Venice was absolutely amazing. Immediately out of the doors I am greeted by a ballet of canal boats dancing for their newly arrived customers with a backdrop of brightly colored houses that words can hardly describe. I check in with my hostel, drop off some stuff in my room, and head to the streets to start my day.
I decide to go without my map for the first part, and this ended up being the best part of my day. I was lost without fear, and as soon as I would find a crowded street I would duck into another alley. I found lovers lost in each others eyes, groups of men sharing bottles of wine, and alley cats begging for affection. Every turn brought me to another amazing bridge over a canal filled with makeshift boats until finally I arrived at the Canale Della Giudecca. I stopped in at a market and purchased some pre-bottled Campari Soda to enjoy on the bench outside.
On the way back, by divine providence I stumble across Il Rifolo and grab a bite of their amazing pizza. For the price, and the location along a canal, I think this might be one of the best deals in Venice.
I woke up this morning and made my arrangements for Munich at the corner cafe and said my goodbyes to Venice. The train ride proved an interesting mix of people and landscapes as I made my way across Northern Italy, Austria, and finally into Germany.
My Hostel was only a few blocks from the train station and located directly across from the Augustiner brewery. Tough luck for me.
Morning from Venice! Stories to come later! 7/26/2013

Good morning Rome, and goodbye for the time... Off to Venice!
July 24th
After an adventurous shuttle ride from the airport, I spent an awkward hour wandering around Termini Station trying to find WiFi before I could trek my way to the hostel. When I arrived at the hostel, I was greeted by a friendly man who watched some of my gear while I began to explore downtown Rome. I grabbed a beer and some peanuts from a snack stand and relaxed for a bit, but after the beer the jet-lag really kicked in. I took a three hour nap in my little bed and met my roommates for the night.
After the nap I took my camera out for a little evening walk... Some photos below!
July 24th, my first day in Rome.
