Week 3 - using Processing to make sounds and trigger keys - this will be an important part of my final prototype.
Research into anxieties
For the space we are looking at in class, it is a common problem that people have a fear of enclosed spaces, especially lifts. I am looking into remedies of such anxieties; mostly sensory. This includes remedies in light, sound and texture.
Using Makey Makey in class - discovering new ways of transmitting information is always an valuable tool - I will further research into whether this will be a valuable addition to the space i am creating
Week 2 - Using Processing to make videos. I am likely use this process in my prototyping project
Week 1 - Our first look at Processing and using the draw and picture tool
Identifying my role as a designer
As a designer I see myself as a person showing my ideas to the world.
There is a lot of debate on what makes good design; whether an ugly object that is still fit for purpose still good design? Or a product which is beautiful to behold, but is utterly useless, is this bad design? The design process is about trial and error, refining something until it is seen fit for purpose. Experimentation is the key to designs becoming revolutionary, and we will never know what will be if we don’t share our ideas.
In the context of interior design, this allows me to create spaces which show my ideas - whether good or bad – every part of the design is a different idea collated together.
If I was asked what my role was as a designer, I would say ‘I’m an ideas man,’ however, it is up to me how I manifest these ideas, and what impact they would have upon others.
New technologies and it’s role in the design process
Discussing how technology can influence design in the future is an interesting proposition. With modern technology ever changing, and advances in all fields of design through the advent of new technologies occurring every day, it is important to consider how this could be used effectively in the design process. An example of technology being implemented in the design world would be the advent of 3D printing in the medical world. Articled such as prosthetics can be designed and manufactured with greater accuracy and speed due to the advent of the process.
Here we see a man that had lost his jaw to cancer has been constructed a 3D printed jaw, allowing him more comfort and easier breathing.
