So Iâve been playing a lot of video games recently and I keep getting little achievement notices that pop up, and all I can see in my head is Derek getting addicted to some cursed video game that causes him to either get hungry all the time and/or to gain weight. So his phone will vibrate and it will have a notification from the game like, âyouâve reached âeaten the whole pie!ââ Or âcongratulations, you just got âcanât see your toesâ!â And then eventually, âwow! Youâre now âwider than you are tallâ!â
Iâm so sorry to take your idea and go âI love, but Iâm going to change it!â
But it reminded me so much of those tiktok ads I keep getting- the little pocket pet or whatever who reminds you and rewards you to do the dishes! Gamify your chores! You went on a walk! Itâs happy!
Derek somehow gets it on his phone. He swears Stiles did it, but he denies it completely. The fact the little avatar isnât a cute animal but is a little Chibi version of himself in the 2000s computer game styles doesnât make that a plausible denial
He only notices when it pings âyou skipped breakfast! Time to eat!â
And continues to ping- despite his ringer and volume down and off- until Derek grabs something from his fridge to eat.
It goes like that for a week. Reminders to eat. Hydrate! Itâs annoying, butâŠDerek really could do with reminders to eat, sometimes.
But then they get more specific. PING you should get a burger today!
Is the damn thing sponsored?
PING indulge your sweet tooth with some chocolate today!
He canât delete it. Or figure out how to change the settings. Or figure out how it KNOWS what heâs been doing.
But it will constantly go off- even if his phone it shut off. If his phone is 3 rooms away? He can still hear it. If he leaves it in his car while heâs in the house? Same thing
Itâs easier to just, follow the damn thing.
But then it starts gettingâŠmore aggressive.
You didnât eat enough calories. Eat more.
You need to eat more fat today- a Burger King coming up in .2miles.
âStomach capacity at 30%. Eat a snack.â
âNational milkshake day. Order 3 to celebrate!â
âItâs Pi Day- weâd say have 3.14 of a pie, but letâs round up to 4!â
âUh-oh, tired? You walked too much today- sit down and relax!â
âCongrats! Youâve hit a new milestone: Morbidly Obese!â
âSave energy- take the elevator!â
Then the countdown reminders, always on his lock screen.
â8 more days until your pants wonât button! Time to go shopping!â
â2 hours until your button pops.â
â512 days until your kitchen chair breaks! Here are recommendations for heavy capacity replacements!â
â4 years, 39 days, 3 hours until immobility.â
Then it starts to order things for Derek.
âYou deserve a treat, door dash ordered.â
âHydration inadequate, funnel ordered.â
âSweet tooth cravings increased? 10lbs of chocolate ordered.â
âLooks like youâre stuckâŠ. Calling Stiles.â
âDestination is 1 block away- cab will arrive in 6 minutes.â
Or the days it just screams at him EAT EAT EAT EAT and doesnât stop until Derek is slumped on the couch, rubbing his massively distended middle, surrounded by the wrappers and grease stained bags and boxes of his gluttony.
It somehow knows when Derek isnât completely full. When he has enough just for that one more bite to push him over the edge, and then it stops.
For less than an hour, before itâs telling Derek âYou need to stretchâŠyour stomach capacity! Grab the funnel!â
