Hey yall, I still need help. Capitalism is a bitch.

Without a car, getting to and from work is more complicated. Public transportation here is... lacking. And sometimes nonexistent like on Sunday nights.

With my schedule and being a manager, I sometimes miss the bus since I can't just bounce before closing tasks are done, in order to make it on time.

Im down to just 10$ total until the 27th, and I still need 70$ for my phone bill thats due the 22nd, and I need to eat and buy coffee.

In this case “chat” is as in Twitch Chat, like when streamers talk to their twitch chats directly, like “hey, chat, what’s happening?” Not sure what they mean by 4th person pronoun - I would consider “chat” a 2nd person plural (you all) but I can see the potential for defining it as a completely separate thing due to the nature of “chat” being a undefined person instead of a specific one? 4th person is referring to the hypothetical collective of people beyond the fourth wall. the fourth wall is the invisible barrier between the stage and the seats, the actor and the audience. and actors 'break' the fourth wall when they address the audience directly and acknowledge that they're a person playing a character for entertainment. in some styles of performance this should never be done, like opera or musicals, because it can collapse the weight and momentum of the story. in others, like improv and game shows, audience participation is encouraged because it's explicitly a collaboration.

in the streaming era (in our panopticon culture) the fourth wall is extremely permeable in interesting new ways. streamers aren't just playing to an audience, they're able to read and respond to messages from that audience too. it's a collaborative improv, there's a call and response, the audience knows the streamer relies on them for attention as they rely on him for entertainment.

so, yeah, 'chat' isn't second person, it's fourth. i'm not referring to the 'you' that's here with me on this side of the stage, im referring to the people beyond this situation, watching our funny little problems. all the world is a stage, now. don't forget to like and subscribe.

This is not correct in a linguistic sense; "fourth person" has nothing to do with the fourth wall, though this speech pattern is absolutely talking across the fourth wall in a very theatrical sense - directly addressing the non-involved audience.

"Fourth person" is a relatively rare technique used by some languages (Algonquian languages in North America, for example) where two third-person entities in a sentence are marked as "proximate" (i.e. near/more relevant) and "obviate" (further/less relevant). The latter is called "fourth person".

In English, if I said "she saw her", we know that the sentence refers to two different women, and which is which depends on previously-established context. In these languages, you would instead say "[3p pronoun] saw [4p pronoun]" and they might require you to establish ahead of time which entity was which, possibly with inflectional endings on the nouns when they are first introduced.

What we're dealing with here is basically an aside - a remark made to spectators not participating in the conversation, or at the very least, to people who are not the direct addressee. From a linguistic standpoint, this is switching clusivity. It's going from the person spoken to being "you" to "y'all" or "y'all" to "all y'all"; i.e. people other than those being directly addressed.

So for example, without using "chat", and having a Southern American-influenced idiolect, the same exchange might go something like:

Me: *says something to X" X: *says something batshit back to me* Me: *cocks head slightly towards bystanders* "Y'all, is this real?"

That's not exactly the same, though, because "y'all" and "all y'all" normally do include the speaker, which is why you have to gesture as well to fully get the point across.

I really like "chat" as a way to specifically address people who are neither the speaker nor the listener, as it provides a function that none of even the non-standard, "extended" English pronouns do.

I put up a big sign on yellow paper with bold lettering, very clearly read, saying "for the SAFETY of our employees please park in reverse" and made sure the word safety was really big. So now when curbside customers come up and don't back in, they're an actual asshole. They see the sign and go fuck safety.

In multiple locations employees have been hit by other cars when bringing grocery orders out. Idk how this isn't common sense

And if you don't know how to back in, you shouldn't be driving. Get more practice. No excuse.

If you have a trailer or something, curbside is literally next to the loading dock so pull up that way. You can do a little loop, don't even have to back up.

There is literally no reason to not park in reverse so just fucking do it okay?

Just stop making us walk in traffic! Especially now that it's getting dark out earlier!

This is more like a what the fuck?

Did a curbside order for 84 items. But multiples of each item so like 10 of each frozen veggie, 4 of each chicken type, shit like that.

700 dollar order.

My co worker and I bring it out cuz its 3 full carriages.

So the guy who originally pulled up is helping unload. Then another truck pulls up, blocking him and another customer in. Apparently this is his wife or gf or something. They start arguing, but they ar least have the decency to step away from us so we don't hear everything while unloading. Tho it would have been better to just leave that at home and not do that in public but okay

The customer in the next parking spot is trying to pull out but the 2nd truck is blocking them. So co worker H goes over and has to ask her to pull up so the customer can get out. Eventually she does, the guy comes back to help unload briefly.

When the lady gets back out of her truck, they get back to arguing. She shoves him.

H is like uh are we gonna have to call the cops and I'm like nah. Acab. Shes like you right.

Everything's in the first truck, we tell them they're all set. The woman goes go get MY food.

I'm like whoa

They pull out of the parking spots but stop a few feet up, both in their trucks, arguing across the seat.

By this point we are back inside and watching on the camera.

The lady gets out of the truck again and were like oh no

She kicks his door and THEN they eventually leave.

We were just like whaaaaat just happened

I fucking HATE when customers come to the register and the FIRST thing they say is “I don’t want this” Okay, what was stopping you from putting it back before you came to me? Like I can understand asking to take something off, but when you’re AT the register is not the time to look through your items and decide what you do and don’t want. You had plenty of time to do this before you came to me

That had annoyed me since I first became a cashier. Why do you take the time to shop if you're just going to hand me half of it right off the bat.

Someone tried to return something to Ghost Halloween today. During tear down. (The sliding doors were propped open for airflow bc it was miraculously in the 60s despite being November.) As we had literally everything in boxes, all the walls were gone so you could see all of We R Toys’s old walls, the registers were all gone, we were very obviously NOT OPEN. I didn’t get to witness it but I hope the district manager laughed them out of the store.

Also one last thing I need to point out about my manager’s anti-medication rant is that they said sobering about “people in history didn’t use medication, they used herbs”

A former manager pointed out that the human population was much smaller back then and agreed with me when I pointed out that people just. Died due to lack of medication.

Again, this was all because I was CONSIDERING going to a doctor to check on my potential hearing loss

3/4 bay doors don't have ropes on them, and being short, i cannot reach them. we have a metal tool we use to close them which, shocker!!!! i can reach the bay doors with said tool.

my manager (who closes 1 day a week and this happened to be his closing shift) asked me to close them, so i grabbed the tool and closed 2 of the 4 doors with it. he watched me the whole time and didn't say anything until i was about to close the last one. conversation went like this:

manager: what are you doing???

me: closing the bay doors like you asked

manager: why are you using that???

me: i'm short and can't reach the bay doors without them.

manager: well, don't ever use that again. we only have one and it'll get lost if you use them.

me: ??? how am i supposed to close them then

manager: i don't know. just reach for them

like thank you sir. next time i'll just extend my limbs like slenderman and close it like that. how oh so very helpful you are.

Blows my mind when I tell people the price of things and they say, "I can't afford that," but then start acting like I should just give them the item in question and then gets upset when I don't. No store ever operates like that! (Today when it happened, another customer got annoyed with me too and gave the customer asking for stuff for free money to cover it, giving me dirty looks all the while. I legitimately thought I was losing my mind.)
