This Thursday (3/5) at 8:00 pm we will be screening Alex Cox's amazing Repo Man!!! Where so many "punk rock" movies and TV of the early 80's just didn't "get it" and failed (just check out the punk episodes of Quincy and C.H.I.P.S.!!!), this movie totally "got it". The soundtrack (which rocks!) uses real punk bands like Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Fear and a great theme song by the godfather of punk himself, Iggy Pop! The story is simple. Otto (Emilio Estevez) gets a job as a a repo man where he meets eccentric co-workers like Bud (Harry Dean Stanton) and Miller (Tracey Walter). He learns the ropes of the job (like getting shot at) while chasing girls and eventually hunting down a Chevy Malibu which carries some strange cargo in its trunk. The film is more than the sum of its parts though. It perfectly captures the spirit of the L.A. punk rock world without overdoing it or resorting to caricature. And this is one movie that can't be accused of product placement as all of the products have generic labels (I.E. beer cans that are only labeled: BEER). Come join us for some wacky adventures and hi-jinks and a trip back to the early 80's. See you Thursday!!
