I think Bom is my favorite
Bom is a changeling who grew up in a wasteland, and never knew his parents (they died before he can remember), and spent his entire childhood alone and just surviving. He didn't even understand language for a long time because he was alone and just eating what he could, working on instincts
Then, he was found by a cult for a dark religion, and made into a child slave for 4 or so years, along with a bunch of others. That's actually where he learned how to speak and understand language! He copied the other slaves and slowly got the hang of it
He was often tortured and punished bc of his disobedience, but he refused to scream and let them have satisfaction of hearing it
Bom decided to do something to escape, and secretly stole fireworks and, through trial and error, made his own exposives. He used them to explode the chains and shackles off his body (neck, wrists, ankles), and it's why he's got such big scars over those parts of his body
He also made more bombs to blow the rest of the cult up and free everyone else
Bom named himself Bom after the explosives (he didn't know how to spell), and the first real color he saw after escaping the bleak and dreary wasteland was pink, on some fiowers. So to him, pink became a symbol of freedom
Bom is very proud of his scars!! To him, they're a symbol of his freedom too. They're proof that his spirit was never broken, and he was able to save himself by his own hand
Bom also became very aware after all that about how there's so much he doesn't know, and it made him curious and made him want to explore the world and learn more about science and engineering!!
