Learning outcome break down
Learning outcomes 1 & 2
By breaking down the brief and really analysing what is being asked of me I was able to create something that was being asked by the brief. From this analyse I was able to conduct the appropriate research that was required to establish a clear understanding of the direction that I had decided to go down. The research could include looking into artists or other brands creations as well as production techniques or even research behind the idea. For example, the burger king brief required in-depth research into why actually fire produced better tasting meat. By tapping into this we were able to achieve unique focal point which would capture the attention of the customer.
Also researching the target audience is incredibly important as these are the people that are buying your product. Therefore questionnaires and focus groups were something that I tried to complete my briefs as this would help steer me in the correct design direction. I did this whilst creating my unique adverts for the Adidas brief as well as creating an app version of the belly guide.
Learning outcome 2 required me to think creatively and communicate well. I did this by brainstorming lots and lots of ideas at various different points of the project. I tried to break down the projects a step at a time to make sure each part had been thought over and that there was a logical decision behind each element. For instance, when creating my own brand, I needed to create something that represented myself, as well as showing others my passion. Therefore the colour scheme typefaces and the logo itself where painstaking nitpicked in order to achieve the best end result.
Learning outcome 3 looked at practical skills and technical means. Every project that I have completed for this module has required some sort of practical skills. Instead of just sticking to one area, I have tried to create projects which vary when it comes to their outcome. For example, I have created posters and zines as well as a radio ad and also an app. I didn't want to pigeon box myself into once specifically skill set as I’m still not sure what field I want to delve into when I finish university. I have enjoyed all the projects and have managed to pick up a few new skill along the way. I now feel more confident in Illustrator as well as After effects and now have developed a love for copywriting which is an area which before the third year had no interest in what so ever.
Learning outcome 4 - key transferable skills and collaboration & enterprise.
In the third year collaboration is 100% recommended. And now I understand why. By collaborating you’re able to generate more ideas than you are alone. Also, it’s great to have someone to bounce ideas off. I found that even if the projects you are working on are completely different having fresh eyes and ear to talk into can really help push your idea that little bit further. Also, collaboration means you can use one another skills set. I have collaborated with a few peers this year, from the grad show brief to the radio one day challenge, collaboration was at the for front of the ideas. I have also managed to attend various talks such the design brum fest talk and the Bruno mag talk, all in all expanding my circle of creatives. This networking can only pay off in the long run and help push me to be the best creative I can be.
