In this painting I expanded the landscape from my bedroom window of the sun setting over my backyard with the train lines on the right side. To create an abstract version of an otherwise dull and industrial landscape. Inspired by the techniques of American painter Jackson Pollock, this piece was painted lying horizontally from several angles. The splattered paint technique was also inspired by Pollock, as well as, Australian abstract artist Estelle Asmodelle. The process of painting this work and experimenting with different styles and techniques helped me see different ways in which we can expand on reality to create abstract works from an avant-garde approach.
Unfortunately I moved last week and wasn't able to find an adequate photo of the perspective I painted the image from that shows how similar it really is for it was painted from a more straight on view. In the painting the black plus signs on the right were abstract depictions of the train lights coming towards me from the distance. I had also left out the freight train bridge as I attempted to transform the industrial landscape into something new.
