mindsmade / Ethan Chandler.
Ethan waits patiently once the door shuts behind him, weight braced against the wall along his back. It’s the only way of making sure no one’s there to stab him in it –––– and even that’s a stretch these days. The walls have proven capable of housing enemies, too. Not so odd, then, that going out and onto the streets ( during daytime ) feels safer than being here. Now that he thinks of it, it’s not much unlike hiding in plain sight, he’d reckon.
Vanessa’s voice, though not … quite as clear as most women’s, carves clean through the walls once raised enough. He pushes off the wall without delay and makes his return as beckoned to. The door remains open behind him. He hopes it doesn’t come across all strange that he’s paralysed by his own smile at the sight of her.
❛ Well, look at you … ❜ With a certain slowness, Ethan regards her once more, this time from top to toe. He beams in a fashion comparable to a proud husband, he deems, but the idea of that’s only gaining in allure now that he thinks about it. It’s a PREMATURE consideration nonetheless, so he squashes it under his heel, straightens himself and brushes over the front of his vest with the palms of his hands. ❛ Now that I’m seein’ you like this, I can’t help but feel I’m lookin’ awfully plain in comparison. Think I should go ahead and change as well? ❜
Without paying the slightest bit of attention to whatever it was that Ethan was wearing, she responds with the palm of her sarcoline hand placed over the back of his. “Not at all,” her lips freely exclaim. This is not to say that Vanessa has absolutely no preference to whichever garments he chooses to wear; however, wandering eyes along the cobblestone streets of London are less likely to judge a man’s attire than they are a woman’s. While it being an absurd notion that one is to be judged on their wardrobe as opposed to the quality of their character, it is a truthful consequence of the times.
And, of course, anyone within earshot of their conversation will likely take a more lenient position knowing that her male counterpart is an American.
The light press on his hand transforms to a gentle clasp, enveloping his touch in hers. “Come along, Mister Chandler ––– the city is right before us, and London waits for no one.” Her statement is paired with a coy smile, though in reality they have all of the day with one another. It is only at night when they are subjected to feeling utterly secluded and under siege.
