I post here once per sometimes about a new mcsm related thought and I feel like I'm in a constant state of noticing she's holding a plate of corn in this scene
Just a follow up to my previous post because I'm not normal about this game (left side is from the game, right is the netflix version)
Here's a shot from the begining of the story. We see the old Order marching up the stairs towards something. The game emphasizes on the subjects, which is why the room looks dark. Even without seeing the End portal frames, by visual queues like the orange and purple glow that are seperated by a dark block, we can tell that they're walking towards an End portal. Netflix shot made the room a bit too visible, the viewer can now see the details on the cobblestone walls and the End portal frame blocks are also visible. The strong light source from the lava makes the viewers eyes drawn to it instead, making the object of interest change. The lava glow from the original shot does not take the attention away from the characters since we can see them all clearly.

Another example of "loosing the main character" can also be seen in this shot where the gang climbs up a hill, revealing the Order's Temple. Don't get me wrong, I think the visual on the right looks gorgeous (if it was a bag of candy, I'd eat it), but our main characters blend in too much with the temple. In the game version, the temple looks slighty fuzzier, and it has this sort of, yellow-ish grey-ish (??) tint that makes the temple look older and unattended. It also shows distance between the characters and their background. They're close to the temple, yet some steps are still required to actually reach it.
Here's one where the original version actually looks more cluttered than the netflix one. On the right, buildings that are further from the camera are more foggy. Bricks on the right look more red, which I really like by the way, I'm a sucker for a good shade of red, but AGAIN, the emphasis on this scene is supposed to be the "BOOM TOWN" title, which AGAIN, is blended into the background in the netflix version, especially the "N" that's lost in the bricks. This could be caused by the sky color since it's in a shade of green that's too light, so the "M" kinda looks like 2 Tertis blocks. I also think (and I SWEAR I'm not beeing nitpicky) that they shouldn't have made the stuff in the further back less visible since this is our introduction to Boom Town, it's SUPPOSED to show what a mess this place is.
This isn't me trying to absolutely shit on the Netflix version by the way. There are scenes where I actually really like better than the origina. Like, I REALLY like how red the nether is, I think they did a good job conveying how dangerous the place is. Like, LOOK.
My main issue with the visuals is mostly how I feel like they're not too sure what to emphasize in some scenes, which is a bummer, cause I think the lighting and coloring itself looks fine when used right. Some of these changes definitely changes the mood and atmosphere that the original game intended and not for the reasons that naratively matches the narative. But Hey! It's all my opinion. Please go easy on me.
Now that I'm looking at the side by side comparison for the MCSM Netflix game (RIP) and the original one again after gainging a few more wrinkles on my brain, I just realized that the "better lighting" made the visuals feel... soulless?? Dead??? Boring??????
Like take the wither storm, for example. I think the reason why the wither storm was so SO scary was because you could barely see it. It's main goal is to destroy the world into nothingness and it ALSO resembles nothingness as you can barely tell the structure of the damn thing. It's a dark flying void, but you know that it's MASSIVE, not to mention the giant glowing teeth and eyes that are in contrast to its body.
The Netflix version made the wither storm too visible, thus making it feel less of a threat than the original did. There's a lot of other scenes that lost its dramatic effect after being retouched, but that's for another day.
To get the "Lukas leaves the group in bad terms" route, does anyone know if the mean dialogues are also necessary? Or does it also work as long as we do the main stuff, ya know, let him leave the shelter, keep the wither sickness a secret, etc.
I used to wonder why Jesse's gang hated Lukas even though he didn't do anything, though it's literally because he didn't do anything.
He doesn't call out Aiden on his shitty behavior at the beginning of the story and just dismissed it as just a mild case of trying to get under your skin.
He's like that one friend who swears up and down they're woke while dating a racist guy.
