Climate change is the defining issue of our age. Following the adoption and signing of the landmark Paris Agreement, our immediate global challenge lies in sustaining the momentum and political will that made the agreement possible. The Climate Action 2016 multi-stakeholder summit will take place two weeks after the signing ceremony of the Paris Agreement, and eight months after the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals by all the governments. The summit will serve to strengthen the multi-stakeholder approach to climate action. Effective climate action will require collaboration from a variety of actors. The Climate Action 2016 summit will engage approximately 700 participants representing leaders from government, business, finance, academia, philanthropy and civil society.
The Climate Action 2016 multistakeholder summit took place on 56 May in Washington D.C. The summit brought together over 700 leaders from government, business, finance, civil society, philanthropy, international institutions, as well as scientific and academic communities, to inject further momentum and coherence into the evolving multistakeholder climate action process in advance of COP22 in Marrakesh.
