PSA: Tumblr/Wordpress is preparing to start selling our user data to Midjourney and OpenAI.
you have to MANUALLY opt out of it as well.
to opt out on desktop, click your blog ➡️ blog settings ➡️ scroll til you see visibility options and it’ll be the last option to toggle.
to opt out on mobile, click your blog ➡️ scroll then click visibility ➡️ toggle opt out option.
if you’ve already opted out of showing up in google searches, it’s preselected for you. if you don’t have the option available, update your app or close your browser/refresh a few times. important to note you also have to opt out for each blog you own separately, so if you’d like to prevent AI scraping your blog i’d really recommend taking the time to opt out. (source)
I don't usually reblog PSAs, but as someone opposed to AI scraping without informed consent from the source material's rights-holders I'd sure love to know that things I put on Tumblr don't get scraped.
I'm not particularly hopeful it doesn't happen anyway, but better safe than sorry
I had originally scheduled this post to go up at a later date, but decided to post it now instead to thank everyone who followed the blog so far for their interest.
To give an idea of what the game will look like, here is one of the maps that has been finished so far; the infirmary!
The story of this game follows a young adult named Lucille. She attends a reunion at her former school, Rosewood Academy; a famous ballet boarding school for aspiring ballerinas.
Rosewood closed several years back, when an on-stage accident during a performance cost the school its reputability and it could no longer make ends meet, though there have been rumours of a reopening.
But as Lucille steps inside, with her invitation firmly clutched in her hand, she finds the foyer empty… and the front door locks behind her.
As you travel the halls of the abandoned building, Lucille will have to confront the past she has with the building, as she tries to figure out what’s going on. But be careful… There might be some unfriendly onlookers lurking in the shadows.
Project Rosewood is a story-driven horror game made in RPG Maker VX Ace.
Please follow this devblog for updates on its development!
This is the most personal blog post I will probably ever write.
To all my followers who are only interested in seeing my game content, feel free to ignore this post.
Since a week ago, I’ve been posted about on the @rpgmconfessions blog and it has been taking a toll on me. People who have barely interacted with me at all are making blanket statements about what kind of terrible person I must be.
The negative things posted about me are posted below:
From: https://rpgmconfessions.tumblr.com/post/170212768842/my-experience-w-the-pixel-horror-rpg-discord-chat (This post will later be referred to as “the experience post“ by another confession.)
I’m not even sure what to say about all of this at this point. I don’t intend to upset people whom I barely know, so reading this kind of thing is very distressing.
You can decide for yourself whether or not this is worth anything to you, but I’ve been diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome (a form of autism) and dysthymia (basically chronic depression) since I was 14. I’m 28 at the moment of writing this. I don’t think that any of this should excuse any shitty behaviour on my part, though.
At the moment, I don’t really know what to do. All I know is that being judged like this hurts and writing this post might just make things worse. I just feel like there is no correct way to act and doing nothing is not going to help either. Not posting anything would only feed into the rumours going around, but I also don’t know how I can prove what my intentions are, so this post is mainly to let people who care know what’s going on.
For now, I’d rather have people not posting about me on the confession blog, even if you want to defend me and mean well. I doubt it will change anyone’s minds and I don’t want to make this into something bigger than it needs to be.
I’m blanking out my blog for now, so I can have some time to think.
Hey, I recently finished playing Lavender and I have to say I really enjoyed the game! The puzzles are great for something so short and it amazes me how much time you had to spend for making them. For that you have my respect. (I tried myself developing a few games but never finished them, so I think I know the pain...). Anyway, once more thank you for your hard work and good luck with other projects! I'm looking forward to play them :D
Thank you so much for your kind words!
The puzzles definitely took quite a while to get right, but since I wanted to practice making game puzzles for the Pixel Horror Jam 2016, I put most of my time in those rather than in making super detailed maps.
It actually took me quite a while before I managed to finish a game of my own, actually! I’ve made a few demos before Lavender, but due to poor planning and motivation loss those never really went anywhere. I highly recommend trying to make something small and simple if you struggle with motivation over long stretches of time; it can really help with figuring out how to tackle bigger projects, if you want to make those one day.
If you struggle with planning out your projects, I highly recommend getting CherryTree to organize your game’s notes! (Don’t worry, it’s 100% free!) You can basically make note hierarchies and it’s a bit like having a lot of .txt files fused together. It’s been a lifesaver for planning my own projects!
Don’t hesitate to send me messages if you need help with something! I can’t promise I’ll know how to help (I mainly use RPG Maker 2003 and VX Ace, so I can’t help much with 2000, VX, XP or MV), but I’ll definitely try!
Hello, I really loved Lavender. All of the puzzles were great. Can I ask how you did the puzzles with the clicking and dragging (with the rings and the cauldron)? Did you use events or a script?
I did it all using events! I used RPG Maker 2003, which does not allow scripts or plug-ins to be used at all.
The way I made it possible to drag objects is by making several Actors in the engine, like this:
The “Cursor“ character is a hand that is in the party whenever the player is in a puzzle screen and is not holding an item. When holding an item, I remove the cursor from the party and put in a new party member, like e.g. the Black Queen chess piece. That way the player sprite changes and I can check for whether the Black Queen or the Cursor is in the player’s party to make conditional branches in the puzzle itself, e.g. a conditional branch that checks for the Black Queen and places the Black Queen on a chess board if the Black Queen is currently in the party rather than the Cursor.
You’ll also have to make sure to put in ways to check for your puzzle’s solutions. E.g. if a chess piece is in the correct place (you can check this via conditional branches with variables and Event X and Event Y comparisons), you turn on a switch or add 1 to a variable that keeps track of how many chess pieces are correctly placed.
I hope that gives a general idea of what I did! If you need more specific instructions for a puzzle you want to make, feel free to ask! (You can also request a private answer if you’d rather not have your puzzle ideas published.)
Hey, fellow game-dev here! (This is my main though) What fonts did you use in Lavender? I think the menu font is your custom font you posted (which is awesome btw!) but what is the normal message font?
The normal message font for Lavender is embedded into RPG Maker 2003 and is called RPG2000! I don’t know if you can get it anywhere outside the engine, sadly, so if you don’t use RPG Maker 2000 or 2003 I don’t know if you can use it.
I really really enjoy Lavender! and the pixel art looks nice for this kind of game (in my opinion). are you planning any continuation of the game? :D
I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the game so much!
As for a continuation, I don’t have anything planned. While I won’t rule it out as a possible future project to expand on Lavender, I think I want to move on to something else now, as I have plenty of ideas for other projects. I hope that makes sense!
