We Canât Win
Being chronically ill is having literally every breath you take scrutinized. Youâre smiling, laughing, getting around okay, maybe even jump or dance: âIt canât be that bad, you look fine!â You are stuck in bed from the pain, illness, & fatigue: âJust try harder, make an EFFORTâ
Ya know what, folks? Just let chronically ill people survive their daily lives in the best way they know how. You are not in their body, you will NEVER know how hard they push themselves; how every joy, every physical action was fought for, how LOW every low actually is.
Because of internalized ableism we rarely, if EVER, show people our lowest lows. Thereâs an added pressure to be presentable, to blend in, to do things as independently as possible so we donât feel like âburdensâ or âbuzzkillsâ to those around us!
Trust chronically ill people when they tell you their limits, they donât need to âmake an effortâ they NEED a break, Theyâre putting their best efforts every day of their lives and it goes completely unacknowledged.
Chronic illness is a full-time job on its own: Â
-Researching your illness -Organizing data -Arranging doctorâs appointment -Emotional/physical labor of said doctorâs appointments -Experimenting with treatments -Pushing through symptoms to continue daily life If youâre LUCKY your doctor isnât an obstacle in regards to attaining your diagnosis or treatment, If youâre **lucky** MONEY isnât an obstacle in regards to attaining your diagnosis or treatment.
Chronically ill people are fighting for themselves EVERY DAY; even those with an episodic chronic illness that impacts their lives rarely and on occasion, theyâre metaphorically and constantly walking on a tightrope, avoiding triggers, anxiously waiting for the next episode.
So next time youâre puzzled about how a chronically ill person is doing any particular activity or maybe you think that theyâre only sick because theyâre not trying hard enough⊠worry about yourself instead.
You donât know their body, you are not in their body, you donât know what it feels like, you DO NOT get to make that call.

Some finished projects. Learned some lessons about mirror images and printing. Totally worth the extra blocks...#learningallthetime #learnsomethingnew #homeschool #blockprinting #linoleumblock (at Cinder and Jacob's House of Loud)
Kids learning new skills. Rory Drew a logo for her business, Aurora's Crazy Cakes, Finn is doing one for Finn's Flora, his terrarium and plant business. They're cutting them in linoleum blocks, and printing them. #linoleumblock #blockprinting #homeschool #homeschoolisrealschool (at Cinder and Jacob's House of Loud)
I think I'm done with my @KennerFarms printing block. Take it for a spin tomorrow! #blockprinting #linoleumblock #linoleumblockprinting #imakestuff #kennerfarmsapiary
Starting a project I in a media i haven't worked in for a long time. I'm excited. Using a blow-up of a logo I drew for @kennerfarmsapiary a long time ago. I'm going to print myself a shirt, and a tablecloth for future farmer's market use. #linoleum #linoleumblock #linoleumblockprinting #imakestuff #cindermakes (at Cinder and Jacob's House of Loud)

Arenât we all?
Sorry.
A brilliant metaphor
6. Cycle lanes are built just for you, and then the cars drive in those too.
7. And you canât go out at night because cars will run right over you.
8. You better watch out for the drunk ones
9. Even if you DO use the cycle lane because it is âSafer for youâ A lot of times there are obstacles and other things in the way to make it more difficult to navigate.
10. Sometimes cars will honk or swerve at you for their entertainment and the drivers will laugh when you react defensively, because theyâre safe in their car and donât realize how dangerous that looks to you on your bike.
11. Some places have much better cycling lanes than others, which is good for those places! But it doesnât fix the unequally-shared-road problem and really underlines how cyclist-unfriendly other places are.
12. The Door Zone in general. Will every parked car slam a door open directly into your path as youâre passing? No, of course not. Do you have to watch every parked car for opening doors anyways? Yes! Because even one surprise crash into a suddenly appearing door can lead to injury, sometimes serious, or even death.
Well explained

Easter is coming up! And itâs a terrible time for pet store bunnies!
Rabbits are marketed as âeasyâ, short-lived, starter pets, especially during the Easter holidays, but that couldnât be farther from the truth! A healthy, well cared for bunny can live just as long as the average cat or dog- 10-12 years!
Whatâs more, they have more complex needs than a cat or a dog. Rabbits are prey animals and do not behave or show affection in the same way as predators like cats and dogs; they donât deal well with being outside-only animals; they can get sad if theyâre on their own and donât receive enough attention; and if theyâre bought as a male and female couple, they can start reproducing from as early as 5-6 months of age, and they can carry multiple litters at the same time!
They have a specialised diet (NOT carrots!), need a specialised living area (unless you want all your things to get chewed up!), and they need specialised vets! Caring for them costs as much as caring for a dog!
Theyâre a big responsibility!
This Easter, Make Yours Chocolate!
BUNNY SAFETY SIGNAL BOOST BECAUSE BUNNIES ARE IMPORTANT
Women considered better coders â but only if they hide their gender
When a group of computer science students decided to study the way that gender bias plays out in software development communities, they assumed that coders would be prejudiced against code written by women.
After all, women make up a very small percentage of software developers â 11.2% according to one 2013 survey â and the presence of sexism in all corners of the overwhelmingly male tech industry has been well documented.
So the student researchers were surprised when their hypothesis proved false â code written by women was in fact more likely to be approved by their peers than code written by men. But that wasnât the end of the story: this only proved true as long as their peers didnât realize the code had been written by a woman.
