and soon enough combeferre just fades to the background because his surviving friends moved away and he’s the only one left and becomes known as “the survivor” but he honestly doesn’t care if he survives because all his friends are gone

Courfeyrac cried, trembling, gesturing to the furniture, papers, everything around them, that he’d flung in his desperation, there’d been people, people who had seen him helping someone with his powers and they were going to come for him, because he was a freak, a monster, he’d hurt people, he’d hurt Combeferre.He whimpered, arms wrapped around his head, trying to calm down, his powers were out of control and he was going to hurt him again, he couldn’t. “Please, ‘Ferre, you have to go, you can’t…I’m so sorry, I’m s-sorry, I…”
"I’m not going to let them do that," Combeferre assured, his voice soft. He gently ran his thumb over Courfeyrac’s hand when he took it. When Courf finally went into his arms, Combeferre held him protectively, one hand gently carding through his curls and the other keeping a hold on him. "It’s okay Courf," he whispered, "I know you didn’t mean it. And I know that you’re trying. And one day, you’re going to be able to control all of this."
"You really think so? Because let’s face it, ‘Ferre, I’m twenty-two years old and it’s only getting worse, how can I control it? I’ve tried, I’ve tried so hard, but then I get upset and it gets worse." Courfeyrac whimpered, but he kept his hold on him, letting his gentle voice, his touch, soothe him at least a bit, because even if everything else went wrong, even if he shouldn’t stay, Combeferre would. He knew he would. He looked around then after a moment, biting his lip. "I made a mess of things again, didn’t I?"
Combeferre nodded. "Yes, I do really think so. You will be able to control it, I know you can. You just... have to work at not letting your emotions get to you." He kept his arms around the other. Of course he wasn't going to let Courfeyrac face this on his own, Combeferre had to support him through this. He looked around too. "Don't worry," he said softly, "It's alright. We'll fix this."

"Promise? You promise, e-everything’s gonna be okay, you won’t let them take me away?" Courfeyrac whispered, looking at him pleadingly, a few tears spilling down his cheeks, he was just so afraid, afraid of being taken from him, from Combeferre, but also afraid of hurting the person he cared about the most. He held out his hand finally, trying to get everything to drop, to rein his powers in again, he had to prove to Combeferre that he could do it.
"I promise," Combeferre whispered, "I will never let them take you away from me." He worried his bottom lip, offering his hand to Courfeyrac. He knew the other would eventually be able to control his powers, he had faith in him that he could. "You can do this, love, you’re okay," he said softly.
"Please, I don’t want to be away from you, I don’t want them to lock me up, I never…I-I never meant to hurt anyone." Courfeyrac whispered, hesitating only a moment before he took hold of his hand, gripping onto it tightly, taking a few steps closer after a moment or two. then he threw himself into his arms, shaking slightly and clinging onto him. "I’m so sorry, ‘Ferre, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt you, you know I didn’t, I’ve been trying so hard, to make this better."
