This is it, folks. Our last hurrah. We want to stay up all night with you.
If you remember our first show, you should definitely be here. If you don't, you should be here anyway because this is your last chance to spend time at the place where Wardenclyffe Gallery & Arts Collective was born.
We're moving on to bigger and better things and have much to share with you. Join us for "The Art of Moving Books" design competition - a part of The Nobelity Project’s partnership with Sandcastle Library on Roatan, Honduras to build a BookMobile that will carry a world of learning to 14 fishing village schools and 3,500 students. Artists of all ages submitted designs to the exhibit, with sales of all artwork helping fund the bookmobile.
The selected Bus Exterior Design came from Baylor Estes, a young mural artist from Austin, Texas. Baylor is hard at work on an updated version of his original design. Join us at Wardenclyffe to see his final product!
Awards for the Innovative Challenge and Student categories will be announced at the gallery that evening.
All the submissions are just delightful and we invite you to come celebrate with us as we get this bus on the road in Roatan! The reception is free and open to all ages.

Dearly beloved,
We are choosing this time to make a huge announcement about the future of Wardenclyffe and our working collective and Board of Regents, as of this moment comprised of Brent Chesnutt, Dave Cole, Baylor Estes Frederick Follmer, William Kauber, Painter, Olivia Pepper, Katie Rose Pipkin, Emily Royall and Eric Leon Upshaw.
Coinciding with our increasing needs for a different sort of space (and more of it) the landowner at our beloved (if ramshackle) 1101 Springdale has come to a place of more aggressively seeking a buyer for the property. Due to what this entails (the installation of a lock box with key onsite, a need for anytime access, realtors requiring reliable and unchanging property details and activity levels, and so on and so forth) we have come to the mutually beneficial decision to uproot and set up shop elsewhere.
THAT'S RIGHT, WE ARE MOVING.
In many ways, this could not have happened at a better time. Spring is filled with inspiration, rising energy, excitement, and newness. We have been eagerly evaluating our needs as individuals and as a collective, and we are thrilled and invigorated by all of our accomplishments of the past year and with our drive to move forward.
Really, the first thing we should have said, and the most important thing we have to say is thank you. Absolutely, sincerely, from the bottoms of our hearts, the immense success and personal reward we have each experienced with this project would not have been possible without every single one of you. From Kickstarter to finale and every astounding show in between, every aspect of Wardenclyffe has been generated, nurtured and sustained by our truly amazing and humbling community of artists, creators, spectators and patrons (of every ilk). We will always be grateful for your support, and we will need it as we move into our next incarnation. Please hold us in your hearts and know that we are more inspired by you every day.
The big questions will be where and when; right now, the answers aren't so simple. We are looking for our most ideal and permanent space, wherein we can continue our work, further our mission statement, and develop new and exciting partnerships within Austin and around the world. Your fearless Board of Regents has been busily dreaming and scheming our exact parameters and requirements. To that end, we are navigating multiple creative partnership prospects (seriously, they're all so goddamned good I could just scream) and all we can say right now is that we intend for our project to grow in dynamic, exciting, and new ways. We believe in this. We believe in you.
During this summer, you can expect to see us, as a collective, producing and promoting group shows in various media that will arise in spaces already extant, as we gather our forces to secure our ideal permanent location - bigger and better than ever before. We have so many things we're excited to bring you. Hopefully you're equally excited for our transition.
While there is a sense of bittersweet sadness associated with leaving our familiar little space at the intersection of Springdale and Oak Springs, there are infinite possibilities of what we can achieve when we find the right place to settle. We hope that you'll join us as we move forward from Wardenclyffe beta phase and into our fully developed form.

Tonight; the opening reception for Alex Diamond's Watercolors
Alex Diamond; Watercolors
Opening Reception February 22nd, 7 pm - 12 am Gallery Hours 4-8 pm Friday and Saturday until March 2nd
Alex Diamond's watercolors are mathematical images rendered by an imperfect machine. When viewed through the lens of the digital age, these works may be assumed to be computer generated geometries; algorithms converted into visual information. Further exploration finds seemingly cold calculations turned to something organic. Executed in the fallible realm of human labor, Alex taps into a primordial study of geometry; where shapes were drawn in the sand with wonder. The dialogue in this body of work extends beyond reclaiming the lost pleasure of simple shapes and questions the artist's relationship to process. To what extent does one operate under self-imposed rules, and is it possible to ever truly access spontaneity? Regardless of conclusion, the work is fundamentally affecting and Diamond's shapes are at once perplexing and lush.
Alex Diamond was born and raised in New York City. He currently divides his time between New York and Austin, Texas.

Jenna Foster, Optic Orgy: A Visceral Celebration of Uncertainty
February 1st - 16th
Opening Reception February 1st, 7 - 11 pm
Jenna's paintings are invented spaces within which she playfully interprets experiences and the body. She uses forms that have physical properties as a point of departure, and reinvents them through intentional divergence from their recognizable properties and gravitational laws into newly biomorphic intermingling forms. She deconstructs and rearranges her subject matter in unpredictable ways, thus re-working its meaning and calling attention to the fluidity of definition. Through this method she creates a visual questioning of realities, an appreciation of the absence of truth and a celebration of the opportunity to toy with these contradictions.
Painting allows her to rearrange experiences rather than to reproduce things, and the ambiguity in her work provides a field of visual content that will inherently change as often as do its viewers’ cognitive tools of perception. Her paintings are made with the intention of expanding this creative awareness and speak to the notion of indeterminacy as a powerful tool for the individual and collective, alike.
Jenna is a shape shifter, an advocate of indeterminacy, and a painter of uncertainty with a penchant for color and distortion of form. To her, the practice of making art is much like the act of breathing, in that pondering why or how one breathes can often make it more difficult to do so. She graduated in 2012 from Southwestern University’s BFA program with a focus in painting, and is currently working on her breathing.

Mid 20th century was an exciting time in the wild West: canvas unstretched as far as the eye could see, great herds of Abstract Expressionists roamed the galleries and it was up to the brave cowboys and cowgirls of Minimalism to reduce the untamed frontier of American art. In celebration of these heroes, Wardenclyffe is pleased as punch to present the First (& Last) Annual Minimalism Rodeo (& County Fair). We are holding a Blue Ribbon Contest for "Best Shape". There will also be a lasso you can play with if you want to.

Dirt, sticks, rocks, spoons, shells, moons The 1000 year accord story with the help of Judy Marquez The Carl Marshall story, outsider art from inside a Texas prison Clearing out her studio, getting ready for the next phase, Dana Ellinger is sharing her collections from nature, prison art from a deceased friend, stories of her innermost journeys, hand carved spoons and water color moons.
Night Viking is a band of artists/musicians, sent to Earth to make fun and havoc. For over 7 years they have puzzled and delighted audiences with cacophony, lo-fi dancin' beats, hyper-real narrative, musical hypnosis, and nonsense. Starting out as a 4-piece consisting of keyboard, acoustic guitar + vox, home-made drums, and a puppet show, they gradually grew into a seven(ish)-piece with horn section, audience-involving percussion, and otherworldly electronic effects. This will be their second interactive i
nstallation. We experience the world through our bodies. Skin, eyes, ears, nose, and taste buds all use specialized means to absorb exquisitely precise information which is sent to our brains. In this installation, Night Viking creates two chambers: one, where we may experience each sense in (relative) isolation, in such a subtle and controlled manner so as to cleanse and calibrate our sensing-machines. The second, where we near the edge of overload, as well as open up to the world beyond the big 5: what about sense of direction, humor, urgency, pride?
