nicholas continued to nod as kaitlyn walked him through the problem but truth be told, it was going in one ear and out the other. he offered a soft “yeah” to pretend like he was listening, when really any talk of math above algebra immediately shut his brain off. “sorry,” he confessed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “what’s… convergent again?” nick grimaced; it was a miracle how he was even scraping by with a C average in this class. “god, i’m so lost.”

kat sighed, resting her chin in the palm of her hand. "convergent is when the limit exists and is finite. if the limit doesn't exist or is a plus or minus infinity then it's divergent," she said. "yanno in that one part of --- of mean girls, cady's at the mathletes com --- competition, she says 'the limit does not exist'? that was a divergent sequence."

to say she was frustrated was an understatement. but, she was doing her absolute best to keep it unnoticed. she’d been helping the other with calculus for the last few hours, and they’d made good progress --- until they got into infinite series. “it’s not absolutely convergent. it’s conditionally convergent,” she said. “i don’t --- i don’t know how to --- how to show you any other way to solve it. there’s only this way to --- to --- to do it correctly,” kat said as she rubbed at her neck. “there’s no other way to simplify it. it just is what it --- what it is.”

raising an eyebrow, he nodded. ‘geez, well if it wasn’t obvious enough, i’m not exactly an acrobat. the best i can do is a cartwheel.’ jamie tapped a finger against the can he held. ‘you could probably do a leg lift and i’d be impressed.’

“i mean, can you --- can you keep up with me? cause, i --- i’ve been dancing since i was --- i was two and --- and i have alot of tricks,” she said with a joking tone, but it wasn’t a lie.

kat had been nervous about the audition all day. she knew for a fact she could nail the singing. she was good at singing. and she knew for sure she could get the dancing down. she was great at both. the acting... that’s what she wasn’t sure about. she’d auditioned for carly. she originally was going to audition as someone else but when she heard which song carly was singing she jumped at the chance. she was in a community production of thirteen the musical when she was younger and she played patrice, so she had experience with the song and knew she could nail it. but she was extremely nervous about speaking parts. her stutter was an inconvenience and this was a performing arts school. they were only going to pick the best actors for the acting parts and her stutter got in the way of that. so while she knew if it was strictly singing and dancing she’d have a really great chance at it, she knew the acting part was just as important and it almost crushed her that something she couldn’t even control could be the reason she didn’t get to do something she was interested in.
