“Not really, no. Most of them are just on their lunch breaks or roaming around with shopping bags in their hands. Overall, a very boring people-watching day.” Adam let out a long exhale, looking over to the other almost guiltily. “No, I haven’t eaten today. I ran out of food and I didn’t…want to go grocery shopping.”

“Then why stay out here if it’s boring?  Though staying for the fresh air is probably nice too.  Not like you get a whole lot of that.” He teased, giving the other a smile.  It was still really weird to think that they were related, but he tried to push those thoughts away at least for now.  Colin sighed when he said he had ran out of food.  “Why didn’t you tell me?  I could have picked you up some things while you were out.  Or you know there’s this handy app that lets you order food to your door.” He pointed out.

Casting a sidelong glance in Colin’s direction, Adam felt himself shrug. Kicking off the wall, he turned to face the other, motioning around with his elbows. “People-watching, mostly. The apartment felt stuffy and I didn’t really want to leave the premises, so I decided to stand.”

“Are they doing anything interesting?” He asked, glancing around.  He didn’t see a lot of people out, but him getting fresh air was probably good.  “Have you eaten anything yet?” Colin asked curiously, looking the other over.

“I don’t think anyone I’ve met in the building so far has kids, though, so I’d have more luck with pet-sitting here,” she chuckled a little bit, then nodded at what he said. “It’s understandable, I probably went too niche for Halloween to be honest,” she shrugged. “I’d love to get into it, so let me know what you think the first steps are. Obviously it takes money, I’m working on that part,” she scratched her head a little bit. “You’re welcome! I, uh, should probably leave you to it. Thanks again for noticing my keychain,” she shook her keys again in appreciation.

“Ok that is fair.  Pet sitting might not be so bad.  I know one guy walks dogs for his job.”  He pointed out.  “Yeah.  Well if you want help making it better let me know.”  Colin offered.  “That’s the only downside is that it can get ridiculously expensive depending on the quality and everything.”  He knew that all to well, part of the reason he worked at a craft store.  “Oh yeah.  I’ll see you around.” He said with a small wave.

“You say cultured,” Ben began, smiling widely as he stepped in behind the other. “But growing up, kids were cruel. Of course I had my phases like everyone else, but I never went to parties on the weekends. I was always holed up with my piano teacher, perfecting each and every note on every piece that was put in front of me. It’s ingrained in me now.”

“Kids are cruel about a lot of things.  I got picked on some in school too, but I just focused on doing my best in my classes and getting through.  We’re smarter than those jerks anyways.  I like music, but I don’t know if I could ever pick up an instrument.  I don’t think Kitty Pryde would like it either.”  He chuckled.  “The main point is to have something in your life that you love doing right?”

“I suppose babysitting wouldn’t be a terrible idea on the side here and there,” she nodded. She listened intently to what he was saying and nodded in agreement, then heard his question. “Well, that actually happened to be last year. I was Yennefer from the Witcher games, and that’s who I’d actually love to cosplay to be honest. The costume was cheap and no one really knew what I was going for, so I feel like it would have been a lot better at a con,” she stated with a smile, hoping he had a clue what she was talking about. She looked at the photo he showed her and nodded with a smile. “That’s super clever actually! I like it,” she stated.

“Yeah it would at least be a start and maybe more in the direction of something you’re looking for.” He suggested.  Colin looked her over and nodded.  “Yeah I can totally see that.  That sucks that no one recognized you.  That happens sometimes at con too, but usually at least some people recognize you.” He said, nodding.  “You would definitely have had better luck at con anyways.”  He grinned at her reaction, feeling proud.  “Thanks.  I didn’t think I looked too bad.”

When they arrived outside of the burrito place, Ben stepped forward and held the door open, his cheek resting against the edge of it as he watched Colin. “I try not to shove my talents in peoples faces, because it makes me sound incredibly pretentious. And if I started acting that way, my siblings would kill me. 

Colin smiled when he held the door open for him.  “Thanks.” He said, stepping through the door and glancing around, looking for the menu.  “Ok you make a good point, but I don’t think you’re pretentious.  Cultured maybe, but I think that’s a cool thing.” He shrugged.

For once, the streets were quiet. And the only way Adam knew this was because he was standing outside the building, leaning against the cool surface of the material it was made up of. He was mostly just people watching, his brow set in a hard furrow as it normally was, making him fairly unapproachable. But, as he felt someone come up beside him, the male tense up, daring to give a quick sideways glance. “May I help you?”

Colin was on his way back to the apartment when he spotted a familiar looking person.  He stopped and moved to lean against the building next to him.  “Relax it’s just me.” He said with a small sigh.  “What are you doing just standing out here?”

Probably to be able to be a professional cosplayer and not have to work at the craft store anymore.

“I do my best not to judge others. Likes are obviously a personal preference and, if it makes you happy, why should you let anyone make you feel bad for it. I grew up listening to classical music and spending my days at a piano. People thought I was weird but I really didn’t give a shit.” Ben smiled at Colin, happy to learn that not everyone thought his music was boring. “It’s very good for creativity, that’s for sure. It helps stimulate the brain.”

“Yeah well not everyone thinks like you unfortunately, but I’m in agreement with you.  I don’t think you should judge others just because you’re different.  Yeah but you are also talented I bet and can shove that in peoples faces you know if you wanted too.” He chuckled.  “I like to listen to it while I’m crafting and stuff.”

“I figure I just balance other people out this way. besides, if I’m quiet I’m still listening.” Ben smiled widely and nodded. “All of that’s really cool stuff. I like stuff like that too, but mostly my interests are classical music and composers. It’s all-consuming.”

“You make a very fair point.” He replied nodding.  “Listening is definitely a good skill.”  Colin grinned.  “Really?  Most people think that stuff is just nerdy and write it off.” He shrugged, glad that people around here didn’t just think he was a weird nerd.  “Oh like Beethoven and Bach?  That’s really cool.  I mean I don’t know a lot about it.  I just know I like the music.  It’s soothing and I feel like it helps the creative juices flow.” He smiled.

“Um, well? I don’t really know right now. Maybe something helping kids? I’d have to go to school, I guess, for that though,” she stated honestly. She hadn’t really thought about that lately. She’d been desperate enough as it was to take the job she had currently. “Not at all, Halloween is my favorite holiday for that reason. You can be whatever the hell you want, from unicorn fairy princess to demon of the underworld, and no one can tell you it’s wrong,” she smiled at the thought. She listened to the listing of characters and nodded. “Genderbent Harley Quinn? Now that’s one you don’t see every day. I’m used to seeing the overly sexualized women for that one,” she rolled her eyes.

“Oh that would be really cool, yeah.  Um you could always babysit or something.  Pretty sure that doesn’t require a degree.” He teased, pushing his glasses back up his nose.  “That’s part of what I love about going to con.  I mean you have purists that might knock you if things aren’t perfect, but everyone pretty much hates those people.  Most are just so nice and compliment you or want to take pictures with you.  It’s just a lot of fun and acceptance.”  He nodded.  “What’s one of your favorite costumes you’ve done?”  Colin asked, having a feeling by looking at her that she was more demon than unicorn, but he didn’t really know the woman so who knew?  “Yeah this girl I know was doing a genderbent joker and talked me into being her Harley.  It was a bit of a branch out for me, but it was actually really fun. Yeah mine wasn’t that bad.  I still had like the ripped shirt.  The bottoms were actual like long shorts so it wasn’t like I was just wearing underwear or anything.”  He pulled out his phone and looked through his pictures for a moment, finding one.  “This.” He said, showing it to her.

Blair laughed back at Colin. “Two peas in a pod, we are,” she smiled. “I’ve gotten pretty used to it, but I do eventually want to move on from there, you know, find something better suited to me,” she said, nodding. “I can always find something, organizing paperwork or generally cleaning up,” she shrugged. She listened as he talked about Cosplay. “Oh, that’s awesome! I take my Halloween costumes very seriously, but not quite to the Cosplay level. I’d actually love to get into that, only I’m not so crafty myself, so it’d probably suck. What characters have you done?”

“Yeah?  What’s your dream job?  Or at least a job that you’re working toward?” He asked, curiously.  He knew he wanted to do more than work at a craft store, but for now it was a job and it helped with his hobby.  “Oh Halloween is fun and no one judges you for wearing a costume then.”  He nodded.  “It takes a lot to be like serious about it.  It’s hard work.”  Colin grinned.  “A lot.  Um I’ve done Spider-Man, he’s my favorite.  A male Harley Quinn, that was fun.  A storm trooper.  Zero from Vampire Knight.  Um a lot actually.” He said, realizing if he tried to list everyone they would be there for a long while.

“I blame all of them for my inability to hold a proper conversation. The worst culprit is my younger sister. She could talk for a straight hour before even realizing you haven’t said anything.” As soon as they were out of the building, Ben took his hands from his pockets, glad to feel the sun shining on his face. “What are topics you like?”

“Wow.  I mean I could probably do that given a topic that I liked enough.” He said with a shrug.  “The world needs all types though so you being a quiet person balances things out?” Colin replied.  “Well I’m kind of nerdy so I like Marvel stuff and Sci-Fi stuff.  I like Harry Potter and Doctor Who.  You?” He asked.
