All I Want (The Voice Performance) - Deanna Johnson
Hardest of Hearts | Collin & Rory
It had been exactly one week since their reunion. Collin coming back into her life did nothing but make matters more complicated, especially with his new wife in toe. That alone should have been enough but it wasn’t — not when a connection like theirs was still so clear. Regardless of the questions asked and the screaming matches (mainly on the werewolf’s behalf) they still ended up spending the evening together. Rory’s apartment living room and bedroom had been slightly destroyed in the process but that was the least of her worries.
Unsure how she was supposed to go about this entire situation, Rory went with the obvious choice: she avoided Collin like the plague.
At first it seemed like the logical thing to do. Putting distance between herself and Collin seemed like the right choice — or at least allow Rory enough time to make the right choice. Hell, there was a part of her that wondered if Collin had lost hope (or patience) and moved on. And as much as she knew that was the best move for the both of them, Rory knew it wouldn’t happen. Collin wouldn’t move on without some closure. Rory would probably never move on at all. She knew because she’d spent the last five years trying too.
Which is why she had been waiting outside of Collins apartment building for about two hours. It was probably a little crazy but if Rory had waited any longer to leave her place she probably never would have made it to Collin’s. The vampire stopped dead in his tracks the second he stepped out of the building, surprise evident on his face when he caught sight of the red head. Rory did the same. The moment she saw him she was mentally kicking herself. How had she been able to go this long without seeing him? Had five years not been enough?
Apparently not, considering the fact that she spent an entire week avoiding the man after sleeping with him.
"Hi," she forced herself to say, doing her best to keep a neutral expression but failing miserably. Had it been anyone else they would have bought Rory’s indifferent facade; unfortunately for her, Collin Lawson knew her better than anyone.
She went on before he had a chance to speak. “Look, before you walk back inside, or run away or…or tell me that you don’t want to hear it just,” she trailed off, unsure of what she wanted to say. The last thing Collin should be giving her was another chance to explain herself, especially when Rory was clearly torn about what she wanted.
Or at least that’s what she kept telling herself.
"Please. Just…five minutes."
To say that the night they had spent together was perfect, or at least everything after the rocky start was, was an understatement. To say that waking up in bed alone and with no sign of Rory the next day was the complete opposite... well that was an even bigger understatement.
Of course Collin knew they still had a million and one things to work out. He knew that simply sleeping together wouldn’t erase all of their problems. But he had kind of thought that sleeping together at least meant that they both wanted to figure out a way to work them out.
Apparently, he was wrong.
Day after day after the fateful night of their reunion passed without a word from Rory. She even managed to do an excellent job of eluding him despite the fact that Oxford had maybe 20 residents and everyone knew everybody else. After the first few days of trying to find her whenever he got a free moment away from Natalie and their ‘mission,’ Collin realized how futile his search was. For all he knew, she’d skipped town completely again. And no one, with the current supernatural tensions would tell a vampire where a werewolf was hiding. If she had wanted to be found... well she would have let him do just that by now.
Since the realization, Collin had fallen into a grumpy, dark routine. He woke several hours after sunset, much later than he ever would have let himself sleep before, would get any work or reports Natalie had for him done, then head off to Fangtopia where he’d spend the night drowning his sorrows away with shots upon shots of A-. He’d go home, far too late, barely getting inside before sunrise and then repeat the whole process.
He didn’t do much beyond that, didn’t say much beyond what he had to, despite Natalie’s insistence that he tell her what was wrong. But he couldn’t. The one and only person he wanted to talk to about it all was the one person who was causing him all of this anguish and she clearly wanted nothing to do with him.
He was on his way to Fangtopia, following his new routine, when a very familiar scent overwhelmed him. He was just about to open the door when he saw her. Standing, completely frozen in his spot, he stared at her. Rage immediately flooded through him. But in the very next instant, it melted away. He wanted to be mad at her. God, did he want to be mad at her. Who told this freaking crazy woman that it was okay to simply disappear on your husband like this whenever things got rough?! But he couldn’t be mad. If he was painfully honest with himself, which he needed to be, she would be so much better off if she had stayed away from him.. for good. Things were far too complicated, far too dangerous with his ‘mission’ and the supernatural tension and his role in it and everything. And as much as he wanted to be mad at her for disappearing on him again, a part of him, the logical, smart part of him, wished that she hadn’t come back.
He let the door close finally and took a few steps towards her, closing the distance between them some but maintaining enough distance that he couldn’t be tempted to reach out and touch her. That wouldn’t do him any good. With his hands buried in his jacket pockets, he looked at her. He tried to just stare, not let any emotions make their way onto his face. But he failed miserably. His gaze was nothing but longing and hurt and confusion and despite everything, love.
“Five minutes.” he agreed.

You're the light, you're the night You're the color of my blood You're the cure, you're the pain You're the only thing I wanna touch Never knew that it could mean so much, so much You're the feel, I don't care Cause I've never been so high Follow me to the dark Let me take you past our satellites You can see the world you brought to life, to life So love me like you do, love me like you do Love me like you do, love me like you do Touch me like you do, touch me like you do What are you waiting for?
Fading in, fading out On the edge of paradise Every inch of your skin is a holy gray I've got to find Only you can set my heart on fire, on fire
Yeah, I'll let you set the pace Cause I'm not thinking straight My head spinning around I can't see clear no more What are you waiting for?
Hearts Under Fire || Collin & Rory (closed)
Rory turned her gaze to the bottle of whiskey on the coffee table, avoiding Collins eyes. The look on the vampires face made it clear that she wasn't supposed to know about Natalie. Or was there something more? She had always been pretty good at reading Collin...apparently that was just something else that hadn't changed over the years.
"Collin-" she began, unable to take the silence. She felt the need to explain as if this was her fault. In all honesty, she was to blame for a lot of this mess but right now she was focused on Collin. Why was he upset? There had to be something he wasn't telling her. Her gut told her there was definitely something he wasn't telling her. Before she could say another word Collin stood abruptly, making his way towards the window. She let out a breath, running a hand through her long red hair. This time she didn't say anything. It was clear that she didn't need too.
What was even more clear was the fact that they both had some serious thinking to do.
"Look, you don't have to explain," she interrupted shortly after he began to speak again, "really, you don't." Rory kept her back turned to him, her green eyes practically burning a whole in the coffee table in front of her. Despite the fact that she wanted an explanation, Rory's pride was a terrible thing. Collin didn't owe her anything. There's was a thing of the past; it had been five years, why wouldn't Collin have moved on by now? Why should he have put a halt on his life just because she was no longer a part of his life? She had been dead to him for the past five years and that was it.
Rory stopped mid thought when he continued to speak. She hesitated for a moment before turning slightly and seeing the ring, their wedding ring, still in tact. She clenched her jaw slightly, unsure how to feel about this. Collin had remarried and moved on with his life but still wore his old wedding ring? "Why?" she asked, standing suddenly to get a better look at him. It made no sense...or so Rory tried to convince herself. It was pretty hard to do when the ring on the end of her necklace suddenly weighed a ton.
"Complicated doesn't even begin to cover it," she muttered to herself, walking around the couch and over towards Collin but still keeping a good distance between them. "What's there to explain, Collin? You moved on with your life just like you were supposed too, there's nothing to explain," she continued, her tone rather harsh despite her efforts to keep calm. Damn Belfronts for being such hot heads. And damn Rory for not being able to contain her feelings a bit better. "The thing I don't get is why keep wearing it?" she asked, crossing her arms over her chest, "after all this time, what's the point?"
Deep down she knew the answer. It was the same reason Rory still wore her wedding ring on her necklace.
Her back may have been turned to him, but even before she spoke Collin could feel the tension in her. Rory was a lot like the fires she was so fond of lighting. All it took to light her up was a single spark and she burst into flame. He couldn't help the smirk that came to his face as he waited for her to finally turn around. She was still just as stubborn as ever. And it was one of the things that he loved about her.
As he stood there, holding his hand up for her to see but waiting for her to actually turn around, he realized how confusing what he was saying and doing really must be for her. God damn it, Collin! he cursed himself. Sure, their situation was crazy complicated, but he was doing a pretty crappy job of making any sense of it for her. And that was the part that killed him. He could make sense of it for her. He could come clean, tell her everything. But he didn't want to. God almighty, he didn't want to. He'd just gotten her back. He wouldn't- he couldn't lose her again.
As she stood and slowly walked around the couch, closing a small bit of distance between them but ensuring there was still a good amount of space between them, Collin's eyes fell over her again. God, he'd dreamed about her so many nights after her 'death' and yet, not a single one of those dreams held a candle to actually seeing her in person like this. He was so overcome by her, so wrapped up in her, he couldn't even begin to think straight or comprehend what he was thinking to give her a sufficient response.
Her insisting that he had nothing to explain and that he was justified in 'moving on' as she so apparently thought he had, stung a little. Did she really think that after an experience like theirs, after a love like theirs, that he could have moved on? Sure, it had been five years, but if Collin were honest, it would have taken him a lifetime to ever truly get over Aurora Foster.
Finally, he drug his eyes back up to meet hers, a look of something like desire and love and hurt all rolled up into one on his face that could leave her with no room for guessing as to why he kept his ring. He looked at her with that look on his face for a good minute before closing the distance between them. He was done playing games, done beating around the bush. "You know why, Ror." he said quietly as his hand slowly reached up to cup her face, his eyes burning into hers with all of the desire and need he'd been forced to bottle up for the last five years. He needed her to know why he couldn't ever take off the band, why he needed to explain even though he couldn't, why he needed to touch her, to hold her, to be with her right now more than anything.
They could have stood there, staring at each other for years and Collin wouldn't have noticed but finally, he moved again. He couldn't take it anymore, he gave in and without another thought, Collin's lips crashed against hers. He didn't care that this wasn't right, that they would still have a million and one things to deal with later. All he knew was that he needed to be with his wife.
