don’t worry you’re fine! i appreciate your input. my response is as follows:

1. i think being attracted to a feminine man is less gay than being attracted to a masculine man, regardless of if they’re cis or trans. dating a trans guy who is ripped and has a full beard is a lot gayer than dating a cis guy who is a sparkly twink.

2. my point about appearances not mattering was in regards not to how gay a gay thing is, but rather whether or not it’s gay to begin with. you say you’re a feminine trans boy; a lot of people would argue it’s straight for men to be attracted to you because you were born as a woman and are still feminine, but if you’re a trans boy the appearance doesn’t matter, it’s still gay. there are, however, a lot of bisexual or bi-curious men who would be more willing to date you than a ripped lumberjack due to the latter being too gay for them. i’m sorry if it comes off as insensitive, but i feel as though it’s the truth.

this is, of course, if you think there’s any merit to classifying sexuality as a spectrum rather than a binary. ultimately i’d have a hard time convincing someone that any of this shit even matters at all. i mostly just made that video because i kept seeing people claim it’s not gay to date a cute boy and i wanted to own the straights with facts and logic.

on the topic of assessing a trans person’s validity…it’s a difficult topic. while i don’t plan on going around accusing people of being trans-trenders, the idea that we should fully accept 100% of trans peoples’ identities seems a little naive when you consider the fact that there could genuinely be some sex perverts out there lying about their identity to mingle with their targets, or confused teenagers who think they’re ready to permanently alter their body with hormones when they might regret it. i realize these are the same arguments transphobes tend to make, but i still think the arguments themselves are worth considering (just without also invalidating every other facet of trans culture by association, obviously). appraising someone’s dedication to transitioning is just one way of many to attempt to determine their validity, which, like, i realize is super fucked up in general, but i feel as though there are cases that warrant it, such as when you come across a self-proclaimed trans woman who seems creepily obsessed with getting to ogle women in restrooms or whatever. it’s something that’s not nearly as prevalent as transphobes would lead you to believe but it still happens.

in regards to people not yet being able to fully transition due to their environment, i totally understand that, i hadn’t considered the possibility when i was making my video. but when it comes to trans people who don’t want to present specifically masculine or feminine…i’m not discounting them but i don’t understand it at all (unless they’re nonbinary). at that point it seems like, well, what’s the purpose of labeling yourself as the gender you weren’t born as if you don’t actually plan on presenting yourself as that gender? what do you get out of it? i’m incredibly curious so i’d love to hear your take on it, what does it mean to be a feminine trans boy, what is it about that identity that you’re comfortable with as opposed to a female identity? i hope i’m not coming off as accusatory or anything, i’m just desperate to understand.

Just to give a counter point for the ending part. A gay woman is just as capable of perving on women in the restroom, how do you properly determine whether or not someone is presenting as trans enough. If it becomes a matter of things like that, who makes the call, do people need to show their Trans Passes at the bathroom security? If the point is to make people feel comfortable thats certainly not the right way to do it. It’s better just to give people the benefit of the doubt when it comes to things that don’t matter, like bathrooms. If they say they’re trans they’re trans.

When it comes to hrt and surgery however, then yes they should be given time to be certain because that actually matters.

yes i agree, benefit of the doubt is generally best. i was mostly just trying to point out that it’s still possible that not every trans person is valid, though it’s admittedly very difficult to know for sure if someone is or isn’t so benefit of the doubt is almost always the way to go.

(though i do think male sexual predators pose a bigger risk to women than lesbian predators for reasons that should be obvious)
