While I was taking this picture just the other day on Christmas, I realized something: I am the happiest I have ever been at this point in my life being WITH the love of my life after searching and going through hell for what seems like forever. You see around this time 3 years ago, my ex husband hit me so many times in the face in less than an hour that he had busted my lip while our infant son watched. I filed for divorce not even a week later with the courage Matthew and my father helped me find. Fast forward to present day, and I have a busted lip again. Why? Not because I'm being beaten again, but because the man in this picture accidentally shoulder checked me in the face during a passionate lovemaking session (sorry, this is going somewhere!) Since I have left that POS my life has been so crazy and so hard, but everything was worth it to get to this point. My life did a complete 180° since that day he beat the crap out of me, and it was all because I had someone so loving that was there for me the entire time listening, and giving me the strength to walk away when I felt like staying because leaving would mean everything that happened to me would be for nothing. I was terrified, but my father and Matthew made me see I was wrong. I remember he used to kick me, hit me, tell me the things about me he wished he could change, lie to my face, controlled me, had to know where I was all the time, manipulated me, wanted me to be the silent wife that didn't talk back. He would scream in my face how he didn't love me anymore and that it was my fault. But this man right here? He wakes up in the middle of the nights just to turn over to kiss me and pull me closer. He does anything he can to keep me and my son safe. He TRUSTS me with all his heart. He constantly reminds me that he loves me. He gives me the confidence I have NEVER had in my life. He is the father to my son that he otherwise wouldn't have (my ex-husband disowned him before the divorce was final). Life can take you to unexpected places, but never doubt God. Sometimes the worst things have to happen to you to create a strong foundation to rebuild on top of. Thank you God. #survivor #domesticabuse https://www.instagram.com/p/Br507O9lSuF/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=68jldcd3sgvl
