               At a predetermined point during the reception, for example, toward the end of dinner, some of my wedding clients like to showcase what I refer to as a “Lifetime of Memories Video Montage”.  This presentation features pictures of the bride & groom as children, through their formative years as they reach milestones and through their dating era.  I sometimes work with my clients to aid them in pairing music for their special slideshow by helping them choose lyrical content that best captures these memories.

2016 Wedding Trends

Make your exit on a high note!  Before the lights come up to signify the end of a great evening filled with romance, laughter and dancing, I like to plan with my wedding clients in advance, a great song they can end the night on. When it’s time for the reception to come to a close, I make it a point to announce the approaching last dance ahead of time; then, invite the couple to the center of the dance floor.  A few seconds into the song, I announce for all guests to join the couple on the dance floor to give them a proper send off.  Depending on the couple, the last dance is either high energy or more reserved, but either way, the newlyweds know they are being sent away by friends and family who love them.

Own your first dance, make it unique, make it you!  Fading fast are the days when a couple looks to a list of suggested songs for their wedding day first dance or “Most popular first dance songs”.  Many of today’s couples are blazing their own trails in search of a unique song that speaks to the special bond they share.  This holds true as well for the father/daughter and mother/son dances.  In fact, I frequently suggest to my wedding clients that they ask their parents what song they would like to dance to.  This takes the burden off of the bride and groom to come up with these songs and in essence, extends a great deal of courtesy to their parents as these dances hold a very special meaning for Mom and Dad.

Your wedding guests will respond to the beats on the dance floor with an entertainer at the helm who can read the crowd and build energy. Recognize the fine institution of marriage with an Anniversary Dance Incorporating an Anniversary Dance into your wedding reception is a great way to spotlight all of the married couples in attendance at your wedding.  When my clients wish to incorporate this, I usually offer song suggestions to include “The Way You Look Tonight” by Frank Sinatra and dedicate it to all of the married couples.  I propose several ways to proceed with this dance.  Invite all married couples to the dance floor and have them dance for the duration of the song, eliminate couples based on the length of time they have been married with the objective of ending the song with only the longest married couple remaining on the dance floor, or, inviting the longest married couples to the dance floor first and gradually fill the dance floor with couples in increments of years married.  Regardless of preference, all approaches are a great way to signify the fine institution of marriage.   #WeddingDJColumbusOH http://www.millenniummobiledj.com 614-596-3070

Sound Advice from A Columbus OH Wedding DJ 2015 Wedding Trends Your Wedding Music And What You Need To Know Selecting your first dance song will appear to be the most epic of decisions

Yes, it is a big deal.  Ideally, your first dance song should be a reflection of you as a couple.  Test drive a few and try to agree on what works for both of you.  If you ultimately cannot agree, ask your DJ to craft a mash up from two of your favorites.

Obsessing over your dance skills, or, lack thereof.

A weekly dance lesson may be just what the doctor ordered, especially, if you tend to trip over one another when cutting the rug.  If you have the time and budget for lessons, go for it; that is, if your vision is to wow your guests.  You may hate dancing, but, at a minimum, your lessons will force you to look into the eyes of your better half for the duration of your weekly lesson; not a bad way to spend part of an evening connecting with your partner.  This may prove to be the most rewarding part of your wedding planning.

You may very well have a friend who is a talented violinist, but, this doesn’t mean he or she is vying for a role during your ceremony

If it is important to you that your friend perform during your ceremony, ask nicely, but, give them an out.  It’s hard to turn down a friend and your friend may prefer to just be a guest at your wedding with no strings attached.  Should your friend agree to perform, give them ample time to practice before taking center stage.

The disparities between sound systems

Although your venue may be equipped with a sound system, check it out in advance to ensure it meets your needs.  You may discover you need more base and clarity for which a professional DJ can accommodate.  

You may want to assume the role of DJ/Emcee

While the day belongs to you, trust the professional DJ you have retained and allow them to perform their job.  Plan with your DJ to ensure he/she plays the music you want and create a must-play and do not play list.  Place trust in your DJ to do the job you have hired them to do and they will get the party started. #WeddingDJColumbusOH http://www.millenniummobiledj.com

Pour Me Some Champagne: Hosting a formal affair? The champagne tower is back. Temp your palette by adding fruit puree to your champagne. It’s a signature mix with a burst of color. Slow Sips: Newlyweds want to showcase their tastes by sharing with their guests. Be it craft beer, signature bourbons & wines or sangria from white to a deep red, these stations will give your guest a better insight into who you are all while assisting you in keeping your bar tab in check. Open Bars Aren’t Necessary: Offering alcohol with a theme to include wine, beer and liquors are becoming commonplace. Some couples choose to only serve local labels while others pour from their home states or favorite destination. Bypassing the ceremony:  As non-traditional as this may seem, trending today are couples who just want to “party”.  Many are postponing marriage in favor of advancing or launching careers at the expense of putting their love lives on hold. When that ideal soul mate is finally discovered, many choose to first live together prior to marriage and many are not interested in a formal ceremony. The preference is to bolt to city hall and make it official.  Once the marriage is a done deal, they just want to plan a large and festive celebration where guests can arrive, dance and drink while avoiding sitting through a formal ceremony.

Today’s couples are recruiting wedding planning via apps such as TaskRabbit for small, yet important tasks and TouristEve for honeymoon planning.  The Knot also has an app to aid you in targeting all the right pros you’ll need for your wedding.  Wedding guests also have it a bit easier in 2015 as many registries make it a snap to purchase gifts directly from your phone. Need a ride home after the celebration comes to a close?  No worries; Uber and Lyft won’t leave guests stranded.

Imagine the possibilities of capturing views of your wedding from every angle in the constellation.  This hot new trend is all the buzz.  A handful of wedding photographers have hopped on the wagon and are utilizing drones for their aerial work to include the view of your wedding ceremony from above and all that surrounds it.  It’s game on for wedding videographers as well who incorporate GoPro cams in conjunction with their video cameras. GoPro cams may be attached to a selfie stick to capture creative shots of you and all of your family and friends on the dance floor while recording candid shots of all as they embark on the reception site.

The DJ Saves The Show:  Sound Advice From A Columbus Ohio Wedding DJ                              THE DIY WORLD IN WHICH WE LIVE While it is true that many weddings have gone the way of DIY (do it yourself), one aspect you don’t want to cut corners on is with your DJ.  Sure, you can rent speakers and hook up an iPod loaded with all your faves and although this may seem fiscally sound, when it comes to the music, none of your guests are likely to approach you and say “well played”. 

Someone will need to be charged with making sure to play the right songs at the appropriate times, to avoid replays and assume the role of a professional DJ/Emcee.  A professional DJ will plan accordingly with you concerning the type of music you want played, coordinate your grand entrance, dinner music and all important formalities for your wedding.  A professional DJ also has the acumen and skills to professionally manage your event and bring your dance floor to life.

Remember, there are many aspects of your wedding whereby you have the green light to DIY, but please, leave the music up to a pro.
