Her apology didn’t mean too much to Russell. He rarely put any stock into ‘I’m sorry’s or anything similar in sound. Ruby was always apologizing. It didn’t mean anything to him. She’d just go right back to whatever she was doing, just like her mother. Both were dead to him, now. Calling him sir, though? That was something he could bank on, something that showed respect, something he wouldn’t mind dragging out of her mouth from time to time. “It’ll help when she gets her head above the steering wheel,” he offered with a crooked smile, eyes glancing over at little Killer. Four more years and she could be pliable to Prometheus. The look didn’t last long, returning to the woman in time to hear her invite. “Your husband won’t mind you picking a stranger off the street to join you for dinner?”
Corrine could go on all day with apologies and the like, it was what she was used to. Apologizing to her ex for being late, not having dinner on the table, whatever he could come up with to be pissed off about - and she had to protect her children on top of that. He could be a bastard of a drunk and she had to learn to handle it while keeping Clara and Fritz safe. A smile spread across her lips, though, because she didn’t have to deal with that anymore and there was nothing stopping her from inviting someone over for dinner. “Oh, no sir, I don’t have a husband,” She shook her head. “Just me and the kids. We just moved from New York, actually, so the house is still a bit of a mess, boxes and whatnot. But I can make a good dinner, I promise you that.” She said with a grin.
