I think the ideal family for Reiji would be: Karlheinz as father, Cordelia as mother, and the triplets as younger brothers.

Just think about it.

Only Reiji prioritizes Karlheinz's orders. Monthly dinner? He'll be there. He even cooks the food himself.

In Reiji's route, we learn that he wanted/dreamed of being Cordelia's son. Looking at her warm relationship with the children (the triplets), and also the fact that she never behaved inappropriately toward Karlheinz's children from other wives.

And seeing the coldness of his own mother (Beatrice), he longed for the warmth that the triplets had from Cordelia. A typical childhood wish.

With the triplets, it's also very easy to see. Reiji's relationship with Shu is filled with hatred — he even kills him or wounds Yui.

Toward the triplets themselves, Reiji has no negative emotions; on the contrary, he simply disciplines them like an older brother would younger ones. I think he even enjoys Laito and Ayato's mischief, and Kanato is also important to him.

And precisely from Reiji's own attitude toward Cordelia's family, his desire to be a member (not indirectly, but directly) can be seen very clearly.

While rewatching the first episode of the first season of the Diabolik Lovers anime, I noticed an important detail that I haven't heard anyone mention before.

When Reiji introduces Yui to the brothers, and after Komori realizes who she's surrounded by (and that nothing is killing them), she chooses to "run away." The triplets chase after her.

Kanato tempts Yui with sweets, Laito cuts her off from the outside world (by cutting the phone wire), and Ayato catches her right at the exit, pinning her against the wall.

Trying to escape from them, Yui goes up the stairs, and the only room available to her turns out to be Cordelia's room.

Cordelia (perhaps without even realizing it) gave the girl shelter — maybe assuming they wouldn't go in there.

So it turns out that while everyone calls Cordelia a monster, she is Yui Komori's only salvation.

After all, even Cordelia's heart itself is the only reason Yui Komori is alive. Without that heart, Kanato's wax figure collection would have gained a new piece.

And ironically, it's the triplets who chase after Yui. Because on the night of Cordelia's murder, they also chased after her.

Ayato dealt the fatal blow — if Del were human, she wouldn't have even been able to take a step (immobilized, right?). Laito pushed her off the balcony, wanting to completely possess her (cut her off from the world, right?). And Kanato burned the already dead body of his mother, caring about the warmth of her body (with Yui, this can't exactly be compared to seduction, but to some extent, sweets are perceived as care, so the angle could be leaning that way).

Yui, on her very first day at the Sakamaki mansion, mirrored Cordelia's last day of life in that very mansion.

Shu, Reiji, and Subaru showed no interest in her, and I think for the same reason — because they didn't participate in the murder, so that moment wasn't given to them.
