He’s running out of options, as per usual. No matter the approach nor angle, all of the attorney’s questions were dodged for one reason or another: and neither Apollo could figure out. It’s like a repeat of history, in all the worst ways. The same dreadful tightening of his bracelet and the weight that settled in his throat as another bluff was forced out of him — just like that day, again. Once before, they’d let their friendship fall prey to their lies — already after both almost or did lose something else dear. Maybe this would hurt more, letting such a thing repeat almost one year after; but maybe Apollo could change it. With one change, he could. But, maybe this is just another bit of false hope: something to tell yourself to get yourself going even when you know you’re screwed. So, the attorney will approach the other, letting a hand settle on his bracelet whilst he did so. It’s still worth a shot to try again, to hope that she wasn’t lying again. ❛ H-Hey, Athena, ’ he began once more, already moving on to repeat the same question in different words. ‘ You sure you’re up for working today ? it was letting her nerves take over. the stress. the anxiousness. the wary eye thrown his way every few minutes &. definitely the sound of her own heartbeat ringing in her ears -- the noise. painful realisations should hit &. the awkward air hung so low that she could barely breath when eyes seemed to drop so low that death seemed so silly in a little world like this. nothing but bluffs &. exaggerations -- those were how days passed so slowly it was almost agonising. her body ached as much as her heart cried for reconciliation -- affirmations that things would be alright even with the heavy secrets weighing her down. the screams. the tremors. the constant fear that with one snap everything would be taken away. taken away from him -- taken away from her. selfish reasonings, right ? for not wanting to bring up subjects that were deemed taboo during office hours &. unthinkable when his arms were wrapped around her so tight her guilt made it impossible to breath. long nights when the pain echoed through dream-filled lips brought the sting to hues of azure &. a chest knotted in nervous patience that he would wake up. the bags under her eyes were a deep blue -- blood shot around irises so full of life now waiting to close into sleeps that would be awoken by her own regret. her body was a mess. meals seemed too much &. snacks seemed to little. she’d binge. she’d stop. exercice was out of the question &. all she could do was lie &. think about the feelings that they hide. a self defence mechanism that kept her conscious crying for retribution. how she wanted nothing more to sit with his lips on her forehead speaking sweet nothings &. gentle reassurance that ‘ everything’s fine. ‘ how she wanted to believe those words -- even the noise in his voice, kissed with deep worry, meant nothing to her -- the softness of a tired smile to crack through synthetic emotions that she could not hide were her own answers. but the glow of blue against her chest spoke of others.

A LIGHT DRIZZLE AGAINST THE PLASTIC OF A PINK UMBRELLA beat gently. not a problem -- not at all -- though the chill to creep up onto the back of her neck was enough to pull the scarf closer &. closer. late november rains were not things to joke around with when your teeth chattered every so slightly. but her shoulder pressed against his own, the tightness of his hand held in hers &. the warmth shared between the lightest touch was enough to keep the heat from leaving their beings. the umbrella worked but already did she find her shoulder soaked as the rain grew harder &. harder as the seconds passed by, the slow die of the sun over the horizon meant it was the perfect time to find their way home.

the flash of anguish blown through his hues was enough to bring the smallest bloom of a smile - enough to perk her lips into mischievous mirth - &. her heart was set on the idea with the bright glow of widget’s screen shining in the dim light of breaking dusk. a battle won just by the way his features painted into the way they did. sliding next to him did arm brush against his ever so slightly &. the flutter of eyelashes thrown at him could match the sweetness of candied lips curved into a smile.

While his mind and feet are all running at full drive, the attorney takes a moment to give a peck on the other's cheek without trouble, and without grace all the same. there goes the last strand of feeble concentration she had left. the papers that sat in front of her meant nothing more than black on white that spoke things she wouldn’t have cared about either way. the dazzle of sapphire glued to each word, trying as hard as she could to read the paragraph before forgetting about the story to a baseless plot in no time flat. it didn’t help that the little peck should pull her out of whatever attempt of placing her concentration on the notes before her were given. &. yet, the smile that curved so pleasantly against thin lips was enough to make up for it. the warmth of soft lips pressed against cold cheek was enough to leave her thinking about it minutes after he had left &. the whisper of a good luck was only enough to urge a soft laugh from hearty meaning. sure, she wouldn’t be able to dive into the work her boss had placed on the wood of her desk. but now she was wide awake - the beat of her chest slowed down as body relaxed &. widget glowed a bright green. porcelain cheek rested against palm of silken skin &. did she sigh in utter content. the hypocrisy of a woman who should LAUGH when other’s would do the same ! but the feeling - the bliss of affections - was hard to ignore. even as the taint of sweet rose blushed on her features, could she not deny it. the smile painted, dazed against eased expression, only widened as her phone was pulled from deep pocket &. a message was sent:

darn it, to think that didn’t work as well as she had planned ! though the weight in her pocket was considerably lighter than what it usually was ( the wallet thing had been a complete accident &. the sincerity in her voice etched with a modest tone was something that came from the heart. ) but a smile curved over painted lips in excitement at his words. true, she couldn’t pay for her own &. simon was the REAL player in her game but mr. wright could surely cover her up if she should ask nicely - &. maybe add a coat of sugar over sweet words of praise.
❝ hmm, i guess so ... but that doesn’t mean we can’t PICK a restaurant while waiting ! i mean - i’m pretty sure the boss wouldn’t mind anywhere ! just not somewhere too expensive, but i don’t think he’d mind. maybe he’d even pay for my lunch if i asked really nice.
