Because I was talking about them, here's Thief (secondary narrator) and Cerhun (I would call this a teaser but Cer's chapter is in the free sample) (musical sting)
and yes, she's named that partly so Thief can call her Sir Cer, as is fitting
I have a book you can purchase!
I have been leery of advertising on tumblr because I think if you post a trope map here they throw you in the stockades. Or maybe that was 2024. At any rate, y'all get the back cover copy instead of the charming graphic I made for my eleven-follower bluesky account.
Three work shirts, a towel, a tunic. Niselt, an enchanter of linen, works alongside potters, grocers, and fellow magicians practicians in the eastern neighborhoods of the bustling city-state of Gan Ostric. Niselt has been able to earn a living and help her mother and aunt on the city outskirts, but now she stands to lose her workshop unless she can protect her fragile good fortune by finding twelve jobs before the month is through. A fistful of jewels, a shimmer of magic, a rain-slicked city night. Thief, a thief, takes pride in her somewhat-lucrative trade and the love interests she finds on the wrong side of the law, who only occasionally steal her pants. But as Gan Ostric hosts a delegation from counterpart city Gan Eigric, it’s Thief’s goody-two-shoes friend Niselt who may have found a dangerous romance…and an even more dangerous secret. Some piecework, a tapestry, a cloak for the only solar magus on the Assembly of Magicians Practicians. When Niselt picks up a job doing piecework for the palace, a discovery about the fabric’s thread count turns to a mystery that collides with her uneasy knowledge of the darkness faced by friends in the city and beyond. The people who can help Niselt save her city and herself might be the magicians practicians that a good enchanter isn’t supposed to know—and the stranger that a good daughter of Gan Ostric isn’t supposed to love.
So what's in the book? Disabled characters (main protagonist has ADHD; others are d/Deaf, autism, PTSD, DeafBlind, blind, facial differences, pain). Bi stuff, gay stuff, aromantic stuff (only in one chapter, but I personally am fond of the aromantic butch knight who is not a knight). Trans stuff if you know what you're looking at. Historical textiles. Characters figuratively from different genres (noir, country song, Arthurian lady...) Problematized magic system. Wizard fight.
you can sample Chapters 1-7 here FREE 🪡
and buy the book on my site or Barnes & Noble for the low low price of $3, or $8 for the version with bonus backmatter. I have a foreboding financial deadline coming up (yes, that means I wrote a book about a financial deadline and then got hit with one), so indie authors (me) appreciate your support :^)
